You can also put a waterproof pad - either disposable, or washable - under you in the bed.
I grew mistrustful of tampons because of toxic shock syndrome, would still use them but not overnight. They make some really huge pads for women that have just had a baby. These are hard to find in stores though. My suggestion is to wear a big old clunky pad at night, just so there is less chance of a mess while you sleep. Get the kind that claims to be for "overnight" protection. If it's completely dry when you get up, you can re-use it the next night.
There are a range of products for your different needs - light day, heavy day, etc. What a pain, but that's what comes with being a girl.
