Wanting to meet other late diagnosed people in Yorkshire
Hi there,
My name is Em. I'm 40yo. I was diagnosed last week. It would be great to meet other woman in the Yorkshire area. Wondering if anyone knows of any Yorkshire meet ups? I really like walking and the outdoors. It would be great to make some friends that understand the experience of being late diagnosed.
Welcome Em. I was diagnosed last year at 62 and live in Scotland so too far away but I hope you get a local response soon.
I am only now coming to terms with the diagnosis and it has been a roller coaster of emotions. I have consumed every scrap of information I possibly can and I am now beginning to understand myself better.
Reactions have been mixed. My family are generally supportive but don't get it and have made no effort to do so and the few friends I have backed off. Probably because my diagnosis has forced them to look in the mirror. It's no surprise that my friends are probably autistic given how hard it is to socialise with non autistic people.
I chose to be open about my diagnosis because it's so exhausting trying to hide it and I also want to raise awareness. I know it's risky but if people can't accept me for who I am then I'd rather not have them in my life.
How are you coping post diagnosis?
