I'll drop off this link and a short blurb, and then get out.

(To the "Mansplainers" of WP: Leave this thread alone!)

South Korea's 4B movement gains traction in the U.S. after Trump's win

Quote:
Following President-elect Trump’s victory -- which was fueled by male voters and to many looked like a referendum on reproductive rights -- some young American women are talking about boycotting men.

The idea comes from the South Korean movement known as 4B, or the 4 No’s (bi means “not” in Korean).  It calls for the refusal of dating men (biyeonae), sexual relationships with men (bisekseu), heterosexual marriage (bihon) and childbirth (bichulsan).

Interest in the 4B movement has surged in the days since the election, with Google searches spiking and the hashtag taking off on social media.  Scores of young women are exploring and promoting the idea in posts on platforms like TikTok and X.

Okay, that's it.  I'm outta here!

I don’t know about boycotting men, but I certainly wouldn’t date someone who voted for Trump or who had conservative stances on things.

Only 20% of the public voted for Trump. The majority didn't vote. I'd be for "boycotting" (whatever that can mean in any practical sense...) the people who didn't vote. They are the ones who got Trump elected.

I thought you already had a wife and your whole life going on and all that, like how does teenage/early 20's women not wanting to engage in relationships as one way to protest violations against their body affect you negatively? LIke why that would make you have to be 'outta here'?

I didn't vote because I live in Canada. So it's my fault and everyone else who doesn't live in the US that orange tumor got elected?

Of course not, Canadians had no say in Trump getting elected or not I am certain they mean U.S.A citizens who didn't vote here in the U.S.

Isn't boycotting men kind of impossible since they're everywhere?

Or do they just mean boycotting doing it with men? Because women won't be allowed to have abortions, use contraceptives or even have interracial relationships anymore so they just can't have sex at all, so the men are really going to suffer (as if women never want it, too). But that will just fuel the hatred of the incel and while male supremacist communities even more.

This will be locked in a hurry.

I think Fnord is respecting this part of the forum as a space for women, by dropping in an article which may be of relevance or concern, but being circumspect in offering his opinion. Thank you, Fnord!

Personally, I find men to be pretty useful to have around, in general.
Though I feel it should be easier to retain financial independence and interests after having kids - and to be able to leave a guy when he becomes unbearably controlling and emotionally abusive. This from experience :(

I think we should get Melania to do 4B, then see how quickly everything changes.

I'd be concerned about the decline in population if this was to seriously become a thing

I mean the outcome of that could be even more horrifying for women than it already is especially if misogynistic type characters continued to be in powerful positions in the future

But that's just my thoughts anyway

I can't see how this could become a thing. If you are prepared to boycott the opposite sex I presume you were not particularly interested in the first place.

I dunno though it could become fashionable for a short while

Imagine the panic mongering from the press if women stopped getting pregnant for a season

If behavior continues to worsen in terms of folks saying stuff like “your body, my choice,” I could certainly see some wanting to go that route. Sexual harassment can put a damper on a person’s sex drive. Some of the behavior I’ve seen and experienced on places like Reddit recently has freaked me out a bit ( 8O ), and I don’t even use it much.

I could see separate spaces for men and women on online platforms growing in popularity due to the growing rift in political alignment in addition to pervasive misogyny.

I remember when Tattoo was topping the charts and it became the fashion amongst some young people to become a lesbian

Oh! I was wondering why I kept seeing people mention 4B (they didn't provide much context) on Reddit.

I seriously need to catch up on world affairs.

OK, and the whole - your body, my choice - seems to be a reappropriated phrase. Originally from the late 60's, it now seems to have resurfaced as an anti-feminist concept. Seemingly connected with the election of Donald Trump and reproductive rights.

^ Ugh, don't get me started on T.A.T.U.

I still remember that interview they did where they said they'd disown a son for being gay but not a daughter because the latter is "profitable". Bleugh. :x
