I went and got a prescription for birth control pills.
The very next day I got my period.
Oh, the irony. It hurts (literally and figuratively).

The doctor said I should take the pill the first Sunday after my period's over.
I've never taken it before. The reason why I'm doing it now is because I have a boyfriend and I want to have sex with him and not risk getting pregnant (of course he'll be wearing a condom. I'll make sure of that.)

So I'm just wondering how many women here are on the pill, why/why not, how it's effecting you, etc.

No, I was but I'll never go on the pill again.

I was originally put on the pill at 15 for menorrhagia, despite trying various different brands and types I had side-effects ranging from increased cramps, breast pain and heavier periods through to irritable bowel syndrome and minor strokes. I was told this was the only option for both birth control and dealing with menorrhagia so my doctor kept me on the pill despite knowing what it was doing to me, it wasn't until I started educating myself that I discovered all the other options and that the pill was responsible for my health problems.

Even if it wasn't for the health risks I still wouldn't use the pill, I prefer enjoying all the benefits of my natural cycles, and I've spent the past 7 years fighting with doctors for my right not to be on the pill, I don't agree with how hormonal birth control is used by doctors as a quick-fix or forced upon many women.

To behonest ive always been curious about the pill but ive always been concerned about it especially when ive heard of people saying how it can fail (though those people didnt use condoms too)
the pro's of what i can see is less periods which is always a blessing unless your worried of pregnancy lol well theres drawbacks with everything but i think your idea of using both forms of contraceptions is a good well informed one :)

another reason i havent used it is because im not sure who to talk to plus I find it quite embarrassing going to a person i dont know and talking about it lol

I've been on the pill, nuvaring, and currently have a mirena iud. It doesn't matter what form of bc one uses, even if one uses more than one form, because there is still always the slight chance of pregnancy. Each method is reliable to a certain extent, assuming one is informed enough to use it properly and the manufacturer creates the product properly.

My best advice is to read the pill packet info. If you didn't receive it, look up the manufacturer online and read a pdf version from them. I find the doctor's version to also contain interesting info the patient version doesn't. I started my pills on a Monday even tho I was also told to start on a Sunday. Most of that type of information is simply arbitrary and based on common practice. One's body has no idea what day of the week it is.

I never used the pill. I started with injections and continue using them. Injections work for me. My husband even learned how to give me the shots.

I was put on it for pain and irregularity in early teens, but now I'm terrified of getting pregnant. I panic when I get a bit bloated from food intolerances :(

No. I had a hystorectomy a few months ago. I've never regretted having it.

I am, but at first I had to switch brands because the first pill gave me migraines and depression, but the one I'm on now and have been for years is working just fine for me. I have less cramping and a lighter flow every month, which is a benefit I like. I originally went on it because I didn't want to get pregnant if the condom had a hole in it.
