What products do you use during your period?

I wear tampons when my period is heavy but then I wear pads too to catch the blood. I wear pads only when my period is light.

I find both products very irritating but since our culture wont let me sit over a pot(with my laptop) in a hut for a week....I wear tampons when its light and both when its heavy...actually something is wrong with me right now and I actually wear the huge incontenence pads over night,or I would have to change it every two hours....very frustrating....my boyfriend doesnt even make fun of me..sweet huh?

I wear pads for the duration of my period and change up three times a day when its heavy
(but maybe not as heavy as some others here).
On the packet though they recommend changing every three hours.
I've never worn tampons, Ever . Partly due to my paranoia about TSS, and I'm scared the string may break off post insertion .

A tampon just isn't reliable enough to not let at least some of the excreation out.

When a tampon is no longer needed, I just wear a pad (really light days).

I wear both tampon and pad on heavy days, then pads only on light days. I try to get the organic tampons because of the things I've read about the regular kind. I like Always with wings.

OB tampons, I would be lost without them.

Pads. I use the Always purple ones, which usually means that I only have to change once during the first day, then on subsequent days one will do me fine. I will change if it starts getting uncomfortable, but it means that if I don't have time to change, or forget, then it's okay. Though my Mum has to change every 1 1/2 hours for the first couple of days

I've worn a tampon once, for swimming (with friends; it was the only opportunity we had to meet up during the hols, and I wasn't going to say no) but I decided I will never wear one again if I can help it!

I can only where the pads cause the tampons are too uncomfortable to be walking around with them.

20 years of this mess, and still I'm not "used to it". Started out using pads (Always brand debuted around that time), few years later used tampons but went back to pads. With pads, you can easily check visually if you're in need of a new one. Tampon has to be removed from body to check-if it's not "full", you can't put it back, so end up using a new one anyway. Either choice (pads or tampons) is barely tolerable-keeping the stuff crammed inside, or keeping it smooshed against one's outsides. Blech !
They can put a man on the moon, but they can't find/invent a better method/product for dealing with this ? The gov't. ought to subsidize these things, give me coupons for free products-having period is not my choice, and buying hygeine supplies isn't optional.
Always pads were great, preferred their flatness & neatness. Eventually their plastic top layer caused me recurring irritations, so had to switch to Stayfree (which had improved since the old days when my mother tried to offer them to me). Now Stayfree has changed their top layer to plastic instead of cotton-grrrrr.

I always use towels, never tampons. I have always believed that shoving sometihing like that up the vagina is unnatural. Mother Nature would have given us a plug for the time of the month otherwise. Plus I knew someone who died from Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS) which is normally brought on by the use of tampons.

My period is very light now I am hardly dripping any blood still so I'm not wearing any tampons or a pad. My period was heavy for two days and then I didn't have it any more, well that's what I thought until the next day I saw brown blood in my underwear so I had to put toilet paper in there and use as pad.

There needs to be another option on the poll, if only "other". I use the Keeper most of the time and consider it the single best decision I've ever made in my entire life. It's that great. I also sometimes use cute washable terrycloth pads-- so much more comfortable than whatever they make disposables out of. They don't leak like you might think they would, and they breathe a little better so your skin doesn't feel as irritated. I got mine from a local company, much cheaper than the ones you can buy on the internet. You can also make your own.

Both options are way cheaper (in the long run, since you only buy once), more comfortable (can't even feel the keeper in after the first couple tries), more convenient (don't need to remember to pick anything up at the store), and better for the environment. I used to hate my period with a passion, but didn't mind it once I started using the Keeper.

I use a mooncup (http://www.mooncup.co.uk/). Occasionally, if the bleeding's very heavy and there's the danger of leakage, I make a little pad out of loo roll. Usually don't need it.
