I love cute cats, bunnies and puppies. Someone called that girly. I don't think I'm super girly.

I think it is, but don't worry about it. Most people have some girly and some not-so-girly traits.

I like cute animals too but I also like creatures females are supposed to find creepy and gross, such as frogs and reptiles and bugs. If someone told me that wasn't normal I'd say "Maybe on your planet."

Who doesn't like cute animals? They are called "cute" for a reason. I am far, far, from girly, and I love cute animals. So do a lot of men.

It's pretty much girly. In actuality you should just do you and not worry about others.

Why is it considered girly?

I think it's girly for me on the terms of being too perky. Also gives me the impression of a real life snob. Call me an a**hole or whatever. After reading that original post had me thinking after reading it that you're perky and snob. I don't know you, but I could also be wrong about you, who knows? Well whatever the case is.

What's snobby about liking cute animals?

It's NOT SNOBBY! It's actually means you are a HUMAN BEING.

I find many animals cute. I don't think it's girly to find many animals cute.

I would worry about you if you didn't find little kitty cats cute, frankly.

I associate anyone liking cute animals with being perky and a real life snob. AS or not. Things about "cute animals" sickens me. I like skulls and things that only a select few would like and or understand. As for the "cute animals " part. I don't like a lot of animals. Okay and what the f**k is considered cute any way...ugh. >:(

Check out this sub-reddit. Total cuteness ...

I don't think so, but that's how people seem to view it.

Once I was talking to my mom about how I really loved something that was cute (I can't remember spcifically what it was) and my mom was like, "What? You don't like cute things."

And my sister was like, "Yes she does! She loves cute things!"

And my mom was just so confused, because she just assumed that since I'm so boyish, I must not like cute things. But really, cuteness is extremely fascinating!

Why is it considered girly?

Because kittens and puppies are babies, and expressing maternal instincts is expected of women in our culture. Bunnies & cats are likewise associated with domesticity. They were animals that were in the women's domain of The Household rather than the outdoor cattle, buffalo and uh...wolverines, or something that the men dealt with. Also, neonatal looking animals really do trigger maternal responses (neurotransmitters, brain activity on a fMRI) in many women. Problem is, they also trigger responses in many men, too so they should really be called, "parental" responses. Except that they also trigger them in children so they should really-really be called "caring" responses.

Especially in the Elizabethan & Victorian eras, the cultural expectations for girls/women were that they should be demure, domesticated and damn near inert in both body and mind. Sweating was out, getting dirty was out, thinking was out, hunting or other exposure to large, dirty, dangerous animals was out. Small, harmless animals were considered acceptable up to a point...all because women were thought to be so frail that such things would be overwhelming. It was gaslighting on a massive scale.

The Yellow Wall Paper By Charlotte Perkins Gilman

In the early 20th century, those bits of cultural memory became marketing tools. After WWII (during which women worked assembly lines & riveted warships together) and later during the Cold War, sex & gender roles once again assumed a pure binary at least in cultural expectations. Marketers followed and enhanced the differences for better sales figures. This waxed and waned until again after 9/11 the pendulum swung so far that layette could only be found in blue or pink. There is also a somewhat conservative religious influence that has to be considered. And now the pendulum is swinging yet back again...

If you love cute cats, bunnies and puppies it doesn't *have* to be because it is the girly thing to do. I could just be because you like them and they make you happy. :cat:

I don't actually consider myself maternal. I never want to have kids. I'd be terrible at it and I don't want to throw my life away. I just like cute animals.
