I think I'll get my hair cut again. I don't think women need long hair, do they? Sensory nightmare, also an organisation nightmare...

Anyway, does anyone know some trendy short to medium hair styles? (Where do you get yours? Seriously, how do all these females know how to get their hair cut in a cool way?)

Anything of the length ending between chin and the middle of the neck will do for me. I have a fringe I'd like to keep too. But it probably wouldn't look good to just cut my hair and leave it as it is. But whatever the new hair style looks like, it must have a fringe of sorts.

Eh... help? I'm pretty clueless about this.

Graduated bobs are popular. Of course, I just wear my hair long, but I read on another forum women going on and on about them.

One bit of advice - you may want to leave it long enough to pull back in a ponytail unless you don't mind a high-maintenance "do" or you never get bad-hair days.

My stylist gets mad when I wear it in a ponytail but its the most practical - especially with the sensory thing. Some days I can't stand having hair my hair down. Too hot, too tickly...

Mine is usually some sort of bob...then it grows out and gets neglected and i just stuff it all inside a hat. I cut it over the summer...and it has now grown just long enough that I can wear it in two braids and I wear a cap over that. Two braids is the key for me...or two buns...so I don't have a big knot on the back of my head...then hats and bandannas...I always have to have something covering my hair.

this is what am do for self:
-get a bic razor or something like that [find proper razors dont cut well].
-razor off hair until have got the length that want.

couldn't care less how messy it looks, usually end up with more bald patches than mum [and bits of flesh taken out],but it feels great.
problem find with short...ish hair is it grows too quickly so have to keep doing it quite often.that be more problem for those who go to get their hair cut by someone who knows what they're doing.

That is why mine stays sort of long...so I don't have to keep having it messed with..I just keep it covered and/or tied up

Buy some sort of hairdressing magazine and flip through it to find a picture with a style you like. Then just take the picture with you to the hair dresser to show the stylist what you're aiming for. She (or he) may make some additional suggestions, but make sure they know your mind is solid about the fringe and the desired length (otherwise they'll end up doing whatever the hell they want to your hair :? )

I asked for a fringe once and all they gave me was a thin looking one that grew into ugly looking cowlicks

The trouble with having your hair cut short is that the first time you get it done it probably won't be exactly how you want it. When I was 18, my hairdresser just cut off most of my hair because he thought it would look better short. I lived with it, but it was too spiky on top. The thing is, you won't know exactly what you want until you've had a few short haircuts.

First of all, I would spend a bit more money than you normally would, as the cheaper hairdressers can be truly clueless about short hair.

Look in a few magazines, know what the name of the general kind of cut you want is. When talking to the hairdresser about what you want, be upfront about the fact that you're a low maintainence kind of girl, and the most fussing about you can handle is drying it and bunging a bit of wax in. They will then ask you, (if they're any good) about the specifics of the cut, such as your fringe and how it will sit around your ears. They will advise you if you're not sure.

Mine is quite a short crop, with an assymetrical fringe. Its quite soft, I get just a bit of texture cut into the top. I like it :)

My hair is straight, and a bob suits me because it doesn't need to be blowdried, or have any stuff on it. It also doesn't need regular maintenance as it still looks fine when it gets longer. I also must have a fringe, which I sometimes cut myself between visits to the hairdresser, but I know that she would give my fringe a trim for nothing if I went in and asked.

I found some nice pictures of bobs already.

I do however think that they'll probably not going to do this willingly, because for reasons that are beyond me wanting your neck free of hair is a sacrilege if you're female.

And they're always on about how this or that won't look good with the shape of my face.

Maybe they fear I might look less female and more like so tomboy. I wouldn't complain.

I actually always considered sort to medium haircuts of little maintenance actually! Which is part of why I want to cut my hair again. I had a short hair cut before (non-bob and without the fringe) and it was easy to style and take care of. I probably think so because it takes roughly 20 minutes to wash and blow-dry my longer hair and I'm still left with just 1 choice which is top pull them into a pony tail.

My hair stylist always wants to leave my hair long enough for a ponytail or for pulling them behind my ears, but I just don't want that/think it looks ugly or cannot stand it due to sensory issues. I will have to remember to say that, so thanks for brining it up.

I'm afraid of that. It happened to me for the past years. I was absolutely sure - always - I just couldn't convey that because I talked wrong, looked wrong, did something wrong... very annoying. I improved a lot on this so I hope I'll do better this time. Thanks for reminding me anyway, I shall keep in mind to make a very determined impression on them.

I keep mine on the long side because I've found in my case it's more of a sensory nightmare when it's tickling my chin or my neck, than if it's just hanging down my back or pulled into a ponytail.

Everytime I've had it cut short I spend too much time brushing invisible "spiders" off of me (when the ends brush my face or neck).

The last time I went to the hairdresser, I told her about how I don't do anything to my hair, and she seemed to think that was complete sacrelige...Her own being short and spikey and heavily dyed...it could be my imagination that she was quietly offended when I told her that I tended to stuff all my hair in a cap or under a bandanna and forget about it.

Right now, my hair is worse than usual. I don't want to cut it, but I wish I could managed to take better care of it.

I might henna it soon.

I keep my hair long because I like the sensory side to it. (I don't shave my legs for the same reason.) But one time, I cut my hair off to less than an inch long all over - did it ever feel weird. If you're going to cut your hair that short on a regular basis you need one of those buzz cut tools you can get or go to a pro, or get a good three-way mirror and a lot of patience. I got away with it because my hair is curly enough that it didn't look too uneven. With straight hair it would have been a nightmare. I did make a huge mess, though, sitting in the tub (to catch all the hair) and feeling the length with my fingers in one hand while trying to use the scissors in the other. I didn't cut it again after that for more than four years.

my hair is long - past my shoulders, and straight.

i cannot go to the hairdressers - that is WAY TOO much for me - someone touching my hair and head, the lights and mirrors and the haridresser's chitchat....that is akin to a kind of electric chair nightmare. i tried - yuck.

if i have my hair cut i do it myself.

i do however like a hard head massage.

I have seen a fair few AS women around with hair like mine - long, straight and then often just pulled back or tied back. i wear it out a lot too, now that it is past my shoulder again and not too prickly.
