You have hyper mobility syndrome? Sorry for the wierd random question, just wondering because i didn't think anybody else had that.

-Adrienne

Anyone who is double-jointed is hypermobile.

Actually thats not true, double jointed is one thing but if the muscle tissue is like a rubberband between your joints so much that it causes arthritis, but makes you able to bend like all different ways is hyper mobility syndrome. Anybody can be double jointed, that doesn't mean they have that syndrome.

I know that. But hypermobility is the recognized medical term for double-jointedness. That's what I meant.

Oh my bad, i even misinterpret ppl on wp haha

When in doubt, ask an autistic. Chances are, they're obsessed with what you need to know.

My 9 year old (AussieBoy) flaps when he's excited. He is constantly chewing on his fingers, tapping pencils on the table and clicking his fingers with an ear tug after 2 clicks). Oh and his shoulder tics up and down.

My 7 year old (UbbyUbbyUbby) loves spinning and he does lots of somersaults on the couch. He also makes noises, 'Eeeeeeeeeeeeeep' and 'waaaaaaaach'

Helen

I bite my lip..I have a scar from a childhood accident that I like to irritate...
I pace and pace and pace...often up on my toes
I rock...when I am in a rocking chair I super rock...it is fun and relaxing
I chew on everything
I bite my nails
I have verbal stims....uck uck uck...dopey dopey doh....
I hand flap when excited

There are probably stims I am not aware of and there are others I don't feel like mentioning.

--Bounce my legs when sitting.
--Tap my fingernails on anything hard.
--"Singing with my teeth" i.e, Clicking my teeth over and over in beat with the small bits of songs that play over and over in my head
--There's a long strip over very short/almost no hair on my left arm because I nibble it off when nervous.

--Recently have started whistling constantly, and I can't stop. The weird thing is: I don't know how to whistle, so I'm basically just blowing air... it's ridiculous.

Many have come and gone over the years.

I have a few simms, but I never do them to alleviate stress or anything, I just do them, more so when I get tired.

Rubbing my fingers against my thumb (main one).
Tapping my heel.
Unusual movements of my tounge against my cheeks and insde of the lips.
I tend to rub my nose, and this increases when I have a cold.
I grab one finger of the right hand with the fingers of the left hand.
When I have two lighters in my pocket I usuly revolve them around each other and when I only ahve one I usualy grab it.
I stroke my beard.
I also grab my chin usualy when I'm thinking hard.

I'm a rocker, but this is mostly when standing. If I'm reading while standing I will always rock or rather shift from foot to foot. No one really notices that though.

I do have a very bizare stim. No one knows about and I only do it when I'm in a bed. Sometimes I will have to stop my day (when I'm home) to do this. I've been doing it since I was 2 years old. The only one who ever knew I did this was my brother, because he was there. I'm 40 and I still do it. It is the only way I can calm down. When I was 2 I would lay on my stomach and bang my head up and down on the pillow. The other thing I would do, that I still do, is lie on my back and rock my head from side to side, and music has to be playing. It is very relaxing. Can you imagine how hard it was to be married and have that issue?

Stimming is a jargon term for a particular form of stereotypy, a repetitive body movement (often done unconsciously) that self-stimulates one or more senses in a regulated manner.

I jiggle my leg, on the ball of my foot, or hold my foot for comfort. I have a special sock for it that is very soft. When things are really, really bad, I rock and chew my nails.

This really sounds like me. Especially the first part. I think I've atleast partially changed from stimming-while-sitting to swinging around (not as extremely as this might sound though) while standing.

When it comes to the latter, I have something similar too. I lay on my side and shake/move/rub my head up and down against the pillow.

It is good to hear that someone else in the world has a stim similar to mine. I thought I was the only one, and I've never ever told anyone about it for fear of sounding out there.
