I was first diagosed with Asperger's Syndrome last Christmas!! But I have always realised that i was differnt to other people socially :( , it never bothered me, other than a few times at secondary school, I have always found it hard to make new friends, but since I was diagnosed this time last year I have realised that there are alot of other people that suffer the same problems as me, and to help a few weeks ago ai joined a social group for people with Asperger's Syndrome and I believe that its the one thing that I needed, I have alot more friends now that I know what is wrong with me. although I don't see Asperger's Syndrome as a disability like some people I just see it as something that I find hard to control e.g I find it hard to stay in good friendships!

Aspergers Isn't a Disease Its Just Part Of Who You Are!! !

Welcome here, snoopmad! Wrong Planet is a good place to socialise, especially if you're better at writing than talking, like I am. :D

I'm inclined to agree that it's just part of who you are. *nods*

AS isn't a disease, and I bet you'll find most people here think the same as you.

I don't think AS is a disease or a disability. It can be difficult to live with in a world which is overwhelmingly extrovert, noisy and sometimes intolerant of those who are different. It is also part of who we are and if we did not have Asperger's Syndrome, we would be different people. I don't know any other way to be than to have AS. Sometimes AS can be difficult to live with and can be disabling but these are problems that can be solved. I think that joining a social group for Aspies sounds like a great idea to meet new friends. I'm thinking of doing the same thing early next year.

Hi Snoopmad!

I am fifty four and about a year ago I self dxd AS. Suddenly my entire life makes sense. Suddenly I know myself.

Snd I never ever agaon have to let the thought that I am the single most effed up individual who has ever walked the Earth cross my mind! Yip!

I like me. I like aspies. And AS is who I am. I am not a malfunctioning regular, I am a propwrly functioning aspie. I like being an aspie! Yip!
