I really don't like being asked what bands I like. Technically I should, since music is all I ever think about. Trouble is that either I'll be talking to someone who won't have heard of any of the bands I like, in which case they'll think I'm an elitist snob - I'm very aware of the stereotype that says I'm from London, I like obscure indie bands, I must be up my own arse. OR if I am talking to someone who does know their stuff my mind will go blank and I won't be able to think of a single thing. ARGGHHH!

Do you have the time?

Are you sick?

How are you?

Are you slow?

Are you married?

Do you work?

How's your sister? She's nice and slim.

I hate being asked the time, especially when it's just a lead in for more conversation. I was riding the bus, had a terrific headache, and didn't want to talk. This guy got on the nearly empty bus, chose the seat closest to mine, and for the next 15 minutes kept trying to initiate eye contact. I closed my eyes, as if sleepy, and ignored him. Finally, I took out my cell phone to check the time, and he pounced. "What time you got?" I told him, and then to my relief, another guy got on who knew him. They immediately fell into conversation, leaving me blessedly ignored.

"Do you like boys?/ Do you like girls?/ Are you a virgin?/ etc."- I do not like it when people go into hysterics when I identify myself as asexual.

"Why do you block your ears and hum?"- because you're too loud, numbskull!

"is something wrong?"

YES! I hate that. People are too nosy and then when you try to explain, they get defensive and say you must be lying/joking/confused. Why can't people accept that some don't want to partake in their "oh so wonderous sex"? :x Not to mention when you try to tell them the difference between romantic and sexual attraction and why you can feel one and not the other (in the case of romantic asexuals of course).

Then there's in inevitable : "Don't knock it 'till you try it."

As for other questions: How are you?
What's up?
What are you doing?
What are you staring at?
How can you not get that joke/riddle/game/expression?? (Because I don't, b***h)
What do you mean you haven't seen this game/show/movie?? (I don't do popular culture)
Why are you doing that? (normally some kind of stim)

Comments I dislike:
What sound? I don't hear any sound. You're weird/hearing things. (the horrid high pitched screech coming from the kitchens is impossible to miss I swear!!)
You're so strange/weird/odd/slow/boring/stupid.
You're so Osaka! (this is in reference to the anime character from Azumanga daiou, I've been nicknamed this because apparantly I'm "just as slow as her"... :? )

i really despise when people ask me what a movie or a book is about, because sometimes is don't fully know until I've been through it it and more often than not it isn't a one sentence answer like they'd expect.

That one drives me nuts too. I had to explain to someone just yesterday that asking me if I missed them was a good way to get thier feelings hurt. I know the answer they want, but I'm not about to lie just to make them feel good.

Well, this doesn't qualify as a question, but it is one of the most irritating I've encountered yet. I have an acquaintance who, whenever I chance to speak to her, will inevitably say, "I've been thinking about you!" Or, "I miss you." Neither one seems to have an appropriate answer. What should I say - "Oh. What were you thinking about me?" Or, go all mushy and say, "Oh, I miss you too, darling!" :eew:

I should feel sorry for people who ask questions we don't like being asked because who knows what will pop out of our mouths in irritation or just plain insouciance.

Personally, I just have scripted responses to most small talk phrases... most of the time I say them without knowing it... at least it gets the small talk off my mind...

hah i just remembered this and it made me laugh:

i work summers as a custodial helper all over my local school district. most schools are interesting to work in because there isnt a day without dysfunction and drama, and since im not really part of the crew, its like im just watching from the outside. one week, i got put in one of the worst school's in the district and at the end of the week, one of the guy's there, Paul who was a real jerk to everybody, asks "so, how'd you like working with us danny boy?" i really hated working there so what came out was "it was alright!" he just went "oh, well ill see ya around." and i got in my car and left, laughing to myself and thinking what a jerk thing for me to say.

How are you?
Are you OK?
Oh, you're a vegetarian? What do you eat?
Do you eat tofu?
How do you know you're eating enough protein?
Where do you go to school?
Aren't you supposed to be in school right now?
What kind of dog is that?
Why are you so quiet?
Why don't you smile?
How many kids do you have?
How could you not have seen that movie?
Are you reading that for school?
Where are you from?
Are your parents home?

When I'm in public, minding my own business, staring off into space pondering.

People ask:

"HEY, WHAT'S THE MATTER?"

I get this a lot. I hate it. Go away. Everything was fine until you interrupted my thought process.

I used to get that a lot when I was a kid. I hated it.

I don't like people asking me how I am. I never give them a straight answer. I usually say 'Good, I guess..."
