I can sleep, but only if my environment is exactly right. I need the right amount of ambient noise, the right temperature, the right blankets, and the right pillows. I need total darkness and (as odd as this may sound) my room even has to smell right. Any alterations to any of these and I cant sleep no matter how tired I am. If I am under a lot of stress not even having all these things in order helps. Not sleeping enough slowly turns me into a cranky 5 year old, but at least I know what I need to fix the problem and that helps me keep a handle on it. It does mean my boyfriend sleeps on the couch sometimes but that just goes with the territory.

I used to have a lot of trouble sleeping because I couldn't turn my brain off. I'd keep replaying social situations that I totally messed up over and over, keeping my up for hours.

Sometimes I don't allow myself to sleep. :? I'll focus too much on something and be up until all hours.

Can't sleep without 1) weed 2 hours before bed and 2) tobacco 10 minutes before bed.

I can't sleep in a set schedule - if I try I just wind lying there awake for hours. What works for me is waiting until I'm completely exhausted and then crashing out for a solid 8 hours. This means I can be awake or asleep at odd hours but my work is pretty flexible - they don't care what times I do my hours as long as they're done - so it all works out. I don't know if this is an option for you but it might be worth a try.

Exercising regularly can also help level out sleeping patterns but it takes a few weeks to start working properly.

I find myself having to obsess and mechanically complete a social situation or even just a random visual-mechanical situation.

I think I would do better in a 30 hour day. I need at least ten hours of sleep, then I am awake for a while but can't use all my energy and I can't go to sleep.

Once I get to sleep, however, I have no problems. Nothing can wake me.

Insomnia is so annoying, and it's just getting worse. I mean, it's not awful. Usually I try to go to bed relatively early, since it takes somewhere between 1-2 hours for me to fall asleep if I'm tired and in a routine, and usually I take melatonin or benadryl. Then I get 5-7 hours of sleep a night, plus a lot on weekends, so I don't really suffer. Occasionally though, I'll have a night whre it takes me 4-5 hours, even if I'm exhausted. It's terrible. I feel like it dictates my life though, because I never stay up or go out with friends. If I don't get in till 3, I'm panicking about ever falling asleep, and then it takes me till 5 or 6, so I suffer much more than they do. I have to keep a fairly consistent schedule or I'll get all messed up. I also am incapable of napping, so I can't catch up. Some people seem to just shrug it off and deal with it, but I enjoy sleep, so I obsess over it, which causes me to become upset when I can't get sleep even though it physically doesn't affect me all that much right away. I feel like going to a doctor about it but idk if I want ot be on heavy sleep meds.

I've had sleeping problems since I was a little kid. I just had a polysomnogram last week, but I haven't gotten the report yet.

yea I have alot of problems sleeping. I have trouble winding down because my brain just always runs about weird things no less. THen when I get to sleep I usually either wake up much earlier then I need to or much later. Sometimes if I'm preoccupied with an event coming up I'll wake up like 3 hours ahead of time.

I have a need to be awake 18-20 hours then sleep 8-10. This doesn't fit the 24 hour a day set up well.

I would like to be able to sleep before 1 AM.

Best,
