I can't say Ive ever had sleep paralysis, as far as sleeping issues goes Ive got Sleep Apnea instead and get to sleep with a CPAP machine so I can actually stay breathing at night. I was being really tired all the time, and had started a delivery job at the beginning of this year and was having problems staying awake while driving, dosing off multiple time a day behind the wheel and coming close to multiple accidents I finally decided to get that checked out as my Mom has it too, finally got it diagnosed and have been using the CPAP since June, and it sure is one hell of an improvement on my energy during the day.

I just had a sleep test last Wednesday, and though I haven't gotten the test results back yet, the nurse who was there said she saw signs of sleep apnea, and in addition, I never entered stages 3 and 4 of sleep. I might also possibly have narcolepsy because I had cataplexy as a kid, I enter REM sleep almost immediately (it's supposed to take around 90 minutes), and I have frequent hypnogogic hallucinations (what people are describing here but I have them almost nightly).

On more than one occassion I have woken up to find my legs do not work when I put them on the floor. Comes as a surprise when you consider that they work on most other occassions. Gives me a new perspective when I am lying on the floor waiting for my legs to work...

I've had it happen to me a couple of times, but only to my arm. It was very frightening. My arm was limp and useless. When I banged it against the wall I didn't feel anything.

I've actually had hallucinations upon awaking, but never when I was paralyzed. One time I woke up and the walls of my room seemed to be closing in on me. Another time I saw a big bug in my room buzzing really loud.

Once, a couple years ago. I fell asleep on a recliner in the living room so I was sitting up right kinda when I experienced it so it probably was alittle different. 'But yea, I woke up in the middle of night and couldn't move. I didn't have any visual or auditory hallucinations or any of that. I don't remember being scared or anything, I was pretty focused on moving. I felt like my limbs weighed heavier than I could lift. I tried to budge them and barely could. Eventually it wore off I guess and I got up and ate something from the fridge and went back to sleep. It was a weird summer for me sleep wise with this, being woke up in the middle of the night with killer headaches(had one so bad I had to go to the emergency room), lucid dreams, waking up on the floor instead of my bed, and some other stuff. None of that has happened since then.

Wow, a lot of people have had it. I've experienced sleep paralysis since I was 17. It seems to happen to me most when I am super stressed, watch a scary movie or read a scary story. I think, for me, it is related to anxiety.

Oh yes that used to happen to me a lot when I was younger. It feels like being locked into place. In fact, sometimes when I try to move myself, I actually dream that Im moving when in reality, Im still stuck on the bed. I havent had an episode like that in a few years though.

Yes. The worst and the weirdest time I woke up, my whole body felt numb. I couldn't scream for help. I woke up on the other end of the couch.

Only every night. I didn't know it was related to AS. I even have hallucinations, like people in the room that aren't really there. It goes away when I wake up fully.

EDIT: I also only have lucid dreams. Is that common for people with AS?

no never, but I understand it has something to do with REM sleep, and that supposedly many abductees experiences can be dismissed as a result of this.

I would like to expereince it one time just to see what it is like.
