Why is it that some autistics on these forums confuse superficiality with being neurotypical?

If the photograph that is your avatar is any indication, you are too much of one of those superficial NTs to understand.

Your stupidity is fadged by the need to be sapient, which in your case will never occur due to your autism.

Children, please...

In my mind they tend to go hand in hand... and I'm sure it's a mindset that is shared amongst many of us.

If you don't mind my asking, and without singling out anyone by name, was this confusion in the context of a frustrated rant, or in the context of some closely-reasoned, cool-headed theorising?

It's important to make a distinction between the two. Making rash generalisations in the heat of the moment, and regretting it later on after things have calmed down, is something that most of us do at one time or another.

I find your poetry interesting, bostick. Are you a Scrabble player by any chance? 8)

Maybe it's because some NTs are superficial. Realistically...NTs have more of a chance at becoming superficial than people with an ASD. Reason because, most NTs have this "drive" to fit in and to conform. Where as most people on the spectrum, aren't likely to follow the trends that make up the term "superficial".
If anyone disagrees with this...then so be it, it's just the way that I see it.

Some people think the world is flat. so?

A better question is why do you care? not all of use think NTs are superficial.

Everyone, superficial or not, has to play the superficial game in order to be accepted. Therefore everyone plays the superficial game. Except for aspies, who can't, for the life of them. That's why the generalization. It should read, more precisely: NTs are superficial when need be, which is most of the time.

I don't think most of us really believe that. Some NTs are superficial, and so are some Aspies.

heh, for some reason I just got the image in my head of all those girls I've seen recently walking around with those huge sunglasses that make them look like cheap imitations of Elton John.

in conclusion, but not by the observations above... not all NT's are superficial.

I guess people see the majority of humanity, most of which are "normal" (ha), and with any majority, a set pattern will appear to be more prevalent as the numbers are greater; it's a fallacy.

A lack of care of social norms is an autistic thing; I don't care if I walk around without a shirt on when I go out for it's not comfortable, I don't care how I appear as how I appear is insignificant compared to the discomfort of wearing said shirt (nor do I see why it's "wrong" to lack a shirt). I wear a shirt however as I know my mother is more comfortable with such.

People confuse superficiality for a lack of care for social conventions too.

I've seen many a superficial "aspie", appearances and all to attract the opposite sex; dressing up as their "hero", and what have you.
