Regarding the Star Trek series, I disagree on Spoke and Data in that for Spock, it is the normal traits of his Vulcan side and for Data, (it) is a programmed machine, designed to learn human traits at a very high level - and that trait learning is a central tenet of (its) character and the show's ongoing plotlines.

OTOH, Reginald Barclay is Aspie through and through - and I often felt that 'that is me!' when seeing him.

I agree that, because they aren't human, Mr. Spock and Mr. Data can't actually be aspies. But I still love them, because when I was a kid, they were a great example of how there were other people out there like me. They were literal aliens (okay, alien and android) existing in an NT human world, and I identified better with them than with most of the other characters. So I think they might deserve a place on this list despite being normal for their species.

Also, Merton Dingle from the teenage horror-movie-mocking TV show "Big Wolf On Campus". Huge nerd, obsessed with all things supernatural, completely socially awkward, no sense of timing, appropriateness, or how not to offend anyone. I'm pretty sure some of his behaviour could be described as stimming, too.

I can't believe only one person mentioned Dwight from the office. Every single aspect of his character screams AS. Michael just struck me as a normal stupid guy with bad social skills. Dwight is the quinessential aspie in sitcom IMO.

Lilo from Lilo and Stitch. Don't believe me? Watch it again and you'll see it.

Reginald Barkley from Star Trek.

Charles Wallace from A Wind in the Door and A Wrinkle in time. Actually Meg too, but milder. The twins are quirky at home but can adapt to other people, sort of like my sister.

The kid from The Wizard seems very autistic.

Alot of the others just seemed eccentric, standoffish or unusually logical, but not really Aspergerish.

My favorite movie is Amelie. After I found out about AS and looked up a bunch of information I realized I probably love that movie so much because she seems to have it too :o She has lots of weird quirks, prefers to be alone, never knew how to make friends, loves certain textures, etc. I had my fiance watch it a few weeks ago and since then he always brings her up and says how we have so much in common. He also thinks shes an aspie :D

Why did I ever miss it the first time I watched it.

- Gilbert Grissom, Sara Sidle and David Hodges from CSI: Las Vegas.

- The guys from The Big Bang Theory

- Vincent D'onofrio's character on Law and Order: I don't know if he's an aspie, but there's something strange about him.

- Malcolm from Malcolm in the middle

- Dr. Reid from Criminal Minds

Maybe I remember others later.

You forgot his only eating candy thing. He's so adorable. -Me love L-

I wonder though. There are so many characters assumed to meet the criteria... Perhaps those traits are concidered ideal... Everyone love House, Or L... Those are the only two of all the characters named that I know... But it's strange that people like characters like that, but not so much actual people.

I disagree with the analisis of House, Grissom, ans Sarah SWidle. Yes, they have the social aspects, and a high IQ, but none of them have the sensory problems distinct to AS. House even drives a motercycle, which seems to be enemy of all those with AS.

Sorry, but I know a LOT of Aspie's who not only ride motorcycles but love them. Personally, the noise doesn't bother me in the slightest, but I won't ride because I consider myself too intelligent to risk being road pizza.... I put a bike down on dirt when I was 14, once is enough. Lesson learned.

My point is that it takes more than one aspect of a syndrome to diagnose someone with it. They don't stim, they don't have sensory problems, all they have are social problems.

Actually. If you remember, after House was shot and Cuddy removed the bloody carpet he refused to go into his office until it was replaced. My first thought was of when my parent's bought me a new bed cover.... Whatchamacallit thing... It was the same colour, but it wasn't the same one... I slept on the floor until they fixed it. And House may have less visible sensory problems. If you notice his house is very dim, he works in a hospital so it would be hard to say if he would prefer it one way over another. He has seniority over Cuddy, so I assume he has been working there a long time and may be used to the light at work, but not at home. Just some things I have noticed. Sorry about being nitty.

Edit: I was playing FF7 and thinking about this for a few minutes. House throws balls and twirls his cane a lot. For a man with limited mobility could this perhaps he a stimming type gesture? Most would interpret it has House being bored but even on an interesting case he will be found doing that. I think this would be appropriate because, since he has leg pain, he probably also has back pain from poor posture and using the cane as he does. This would effectively stop him from rocking back and forth a lot... Again, just more thinking... I have no medical training so it may be way off.

Another thing. His sensory problems could be to pain or touch. He could be, instead of a druggie, a wimp. He could be super sensitive to pain which could make him take more drugs. Or he could be a druggie.
