I'm friends with some female geeks. I'm even half of a female geek! But I don't look like I'm a geek, though.

Although they only asked if i could quote 1 movie from start to finish. I can quote dozens of movies from start to finish perhaps hundreds, describe what is happening, what i was thinking about at the time i first watched it.

The popular version is emo, the less popular version is nerdy, sciency or a bookworm or both, doesn't do makeup or hair, chunky black glasses, goofy, clumsy, quiet... but hey, that's just the stereotype!

For The Record:

A Nerd is someone who is passionate about learning/being smart/academia.
A Geek is someone who is passionate about some particular area or subject, often an obscure or difficult one.
A Dork is someone who has difficulty with common social expectations/interactions.
You scored better than half in Nerd, earning you the title of: Pure Nerd.

The times, they are a-changing. It used to be that being exceptionally smart led to being unpopular, which would ultimately lead to picking up all of the traits and tendences associated with the "dork." No-longer. Being smart isn't as socially crippling as it once was, and even more so as you get older: eventually being a Pure Nerd will likely be replaced with the following label: Purely Successful.

Congratulations!

My test tracked 3 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender:

free online dating free online dating
You scored higher than 94% on nerdiness
free online dating free online dating
You scored higher than 12% on geekosity
free online dating free online dating
You scored higher than 33% on dork points

Always SAID I was wierd even for an aspie :P

So...

Dork = poor social skills

Therefore, Nerd = dork + academia and Geek = dork + narrow interest.

Humz... But I am all three, because my social skills ain't so hot, I enjoy the pursuit of knowledge and accomplishment within academia, but I also have narrow interests...

I'm a Dogerd? A Negork? A Nordeek? A Dornergeek?

I've been called a geek, although I'm too lazy for that. I think I'm to femenine to be a geek and to geeky to be a female...

An aspie?

I don't know how acurate this test is because I scored quite lowly on the geek points I think
73 % Nerd, 13% Geek, 21% Dork
Me not having special interests? Hu?

I think we need to find or make up a word for all 3. Because it don't look like theres much point in trying to seperate the 3. Cause too many of us can fit into all three catergories quite easiely.

Im still trying to see the point of trying to fit into these seemingly negative catergories. Because most of these are assosiated with bulling or being a outcast it in a negative manner. I know alot may indeed be outcasts but why do we need to try and magnify it and find which catergorie we fit into.

Sorry went off topic again thinking about what I have to do today. O well post it any way

I have not been going around asking about what those words mean to various people, and why, but i have done so with other words and it seems to me that despite these "technical definitions of nerd, geek, and dork" mostly what makes up peoples definition of a word is personal experiance of its usage which can be very improper. This changes its meaning and usage for that person. Perhaps at one point nerd, geek, and dork had specific and clear definitions, but at least between my friends (about 20 people) the meaning is skewed. And the ways in which it is unclear also does not have a neat pattern to it. Like one of my friends criteria for being a geek was being badly dressed. Apparently she expected that nerds have better fashion sense than geeks.

And for the most part the only people trying to change the widely understood meaning of any of these words are people who identify themselves AS being a nerd, geek, or dork, and annoyingly anal english teachers, the meaning of these words is bound to continue being imprecise and unclear.
