Oh god, I LOVE my Docs! Great obsession, a bit expensive, but...

I'm obsessed with human behavior. I read just about everything I can get. I love how the brain works and what evolution it went through to get it to it's current state. Even evolutionary psychology is quite interesting. I got into the hypnotism thing for a while, interesting thing the subconscious. Lately it's been Autism and other disorders, for obvious reasons.

My second obsession is astronomy, cosmology, astro-physics. When I was a kid I memorized many of the stars and consolations. I could tell you most everything about them even the stories behind them. I still know a lot of them, but now I concentrate on black holes, galaxy formation, string theory, etc... I swear I read at least 5 or 6 different astronomy web sites every day. I read them so much that finding new news is difficult. It's way aggravating.

My last obsession is computers, it's what pays my bills. I started getting interested back in the late '70s and I've evolved my way through that world pretty well. I collect old computer crap. I think at first it started as a pack rat thing, but turned into a collection later. I've got VLB video cards, Commodore Vic20/64, Ti994a, just tons of crap. lol One of these days I'll stop thinking that I might need it someday.

I have a smaller obsession of famous painters. My most recent favorite being Salvadore Dali. I have a couple of prints hanging around my house. I had to go to the museum when I was in London. Something about that guy fascinates me.

I collect random things from events. I guess it's just my way of remembering my past since my memory is so bad.

I have an obsession with stickers. You need to see the dash in my car to understand. There goes the resale value!

I'm trying really hard to get obsessed with fixing my house. It's hard though, I just can't find much fascinating about it. But I know if I keep searching I'll find something about it to get me going.

Started with apple pips when I was 6, went onto Thomas the tank engine, Then later Pokémon, crisp packets. In my teens went onto Futurama, rabbits and after I left school; Family Guy, American Dad. Now I am obsessed with neurology, In particular Autistic spectrum disorders and Tourette syndrome. (I also am obsessed with learning languages. So far I can speak German...)

my obsessions change but not often, ive always had my rock obsession and started rockhounding when i was 6 or 7.
i lived in such a great area for it too. i can remember going out in my back yard not even looking to find anything and i'd either find translucent agate, or almost clear quartz. but to find the good stuff we would need to head on out to the desert. thats where you could find fire agate

I used to have a friend, who was obsessed with people going to the bathroom.

I don't think that my obsessions are pathetic, at all. Routemasters are very beautiful buses. I think that some of the best Rock music came out of the UK. You don't get the swearing and nudity in children's movies, that you usually get in the rest of them. The fact that I'm still drawing and painting, after over 25 years, means that I have a unique way of looking at the world. And also, how could I not love the decade that I was born in?

When in doubt, ask an autistic. Chances are, they're obsessed with what you need to know.

I used to have an obsession with football and basketball cards. Now I didn't memorize stats, or teams, or anything, but I needed to collect them. I really didn't care much for either sport, but would play it occasionally in recess at school.

This all started by my cousin giving me some old cards that they didn't want anymore.
I would just organize the cards for hours nearly every day. I had about 6 large boxes of them. I would sort them by brand and card number order. Then when I finished going all the way through the collection in a couple days I would then sort them a different way like alphabetically by the athlete's name. After a few days to resort them all I would then decide to resort them in a different way like by the team. I usually left them alone for a couple of days after I finished organizing them before I got started again. I would also switch between putting them in card sheets in binders and putting them in cardboard boxes.
I also got the Becket's price guide and would track the value of some of my favorite cards. I don't really know why I really liked some cards better, maybe it was the picture was more interesting, i don't really remember any of them anymore.

After a few years of this I grew out of sports cards when I discovered Magic the Gathering cards.
Now I had cards that I could sort in even more interesting ways and also decks to construct and a game to use the cards to play with. I spent much more time organizing my cards than I ever did playing the game. I could sort these ones by color, alphabetically, by mana cost, by spell type, so many combinations.

First Thomas the tank engine (when I was about 2), then climbing, then butterflys and bees, then astronomy, then classical flute, then ancient egypt and christianity (I obsessed over all the logical fallacies and asked increasingly awkward questions of the youth pastor - I made him cry when I was 9 - and actually converted at least 3 of the children in my sunday school to atheism), then making model aeroplanes and micro-biology, then cancer and human biology, then mathematics, then saved by the bell, then science fiction books (ongoing concurrent with my other special interests until about a year ago), then angel and buffy and stargate, then sailing, hiking, wilderness survival and christianity again, then mathematics again, then debating and speechs and classical mythology, then collecting dvds of the tv shows I like (mostly sci-fi, and I haven't even watched them all, there's just a few I watched over and over), then formal logic, and now fanfiction, emo/punk music and mechano.

Until I found out about special interest and autism I never understood why, at age 11, doing my maths homework made me feel so happy and euphoric when just about everything else left me cold. I used to grin and move about and feel so happy and alive when I was sitting at my desk drawing probability trees but almost all of the rest of the time I felt completely detatched from everything. I was either numb or miserable. Now I know why I couldn't connect with anyone. Now I know why I could never be normal. Now I know why I was able to focus with great intensity on one specific thing but completely unable to concentrate on anything else for any reasonable length of time - my teachers thought I was ret*d. At age 9 I got sent to this shrink for an IQ test and despite the fact that I was completely unable to focus on it for more then 5 minutes at a time I still scored well above average. I got sent there because they were trying to dump me into special ed and I came out with a recomendation that I join the Gifted Children Society. Ahhh, irony.

The guy with the bathroom fetish reminds me about something I heard about rocker Chuck Berry. Apparently he used to tape people going into the bathroom to pee. What a weirdo!
