GMT -5, though I had to change to -4 for daylight savings time.

GMT,

but last week whilst I was staying up watching the cricket in NZ on television, my body felt it was on a different time zone - probably something like US EST as I was going to bed about 5am GMT. Only last night did I change it (and managed 2 hours sleep as I was working at 4am)

What does all this GMT mean?
I know it has to do with time zone but I don't get it.

I might not explain this the best, but I'll give it a shot:

GMT stands for Greenwich Mean Time. It's the starting point that all the other time zones are based on. All the other time zones can be measured by the number of hours you add or subtract from GMT to get your time. For example, in GMT, it is 2:40 am Friday, but in the eastern U.S., where it is Daylight Savings time, the current time is 10:40 pm Thursday, four hours behind GMT (or GMT -4)
