Does anyone here not like to talk on the phone?

i don't My wife is a jabberjaw and she'll talk your ear off. She knows I don't like to talk on the phone and she's been better about recognizing when I'm uncomfortable.

In fact, I don't even like to talk at all. When I'm alone, I don't even so much as open my mouth. If I could get away with it, I won't talk at all.

Ditto.

And it's hell when you have to call the help desk for the internet connection -- most of the time you get a person at the other end whose first language isn't English (and whose second language doesn't seem to be English either).

I've never been good at talking on the phone, especially with other guys. In fact I've had several friends mock my phone skills.

I was written up at work once for repeatedly not answering a phone when i was closest to it. Many times i find myself not answering someone's questions on phones, i don't know why but it is just hard to say something back to them. This is annoying to say the least. I wonder why phones are worse than talking face to face. :?

Agreed..I don't like to be on the phone. It drives my wife crazy, as she loves to talk on it.

I'm not crazy about it, but I have to do it. But I don't like to just hang on the phone, forever. I'll have something else going on, especially during TCs (Teleconferences) to keep the idle part of my mind engaged...;)

I hate it, and I'm horrible about it. I cannot stand when people call "just to talk"... I don't get it, lol. I cannot keep a conversation like that going and I wind up saying "so... did you actually call for any particular reason?"

They usually get uncomfortable after that and say they have to go, lol.

When I was forced to, I would. There have been times where I have been called into some serious meetings about my performance at work and this was amongst on of the many AS like issues they had with me.

There have been plenty of times where I have been backed into a corner about conversations (oh the joy of being a parent! ), but now that I know I can recruit my partner to do the dirty work ( he doesn't mind social so much), I boycott it all-together !

My mom used to make me call people for her (doctor appointments, checking to see if stores were open), in order to break me of my fear of the phone...it didn't so much work as make it worse.

It took me months to be able to answer the phone at work. Fortunately, people were understanding, and it just became a friendly joke that I was afraid of the phone.

I don't like to talk on the phone. I try to avoid it as much as I can.

Although, sometimes situations arise where I have to use the phone. In these times, i'll do it.

I hate it very much. I've always hated it, because I don't know how to bridge the gap when an uncomfortable silence occurs.

Yes and no for me, about 90% of the time, I hate talking on the phone, it might improve a little if I get a head set, because my future husband works across the country and calls just about everynight. Almost everytime he calls I am busy at computer work so I am trying to do 2 things at once (My shoulder hurts after a while)
plus most of the time I don't have anything to talk about and try to give hints that I want to hang up.

It's not often that I stay on the phone for a period of time taking, but when I do, I enjoy it.
