Very good question! I wondered if it was just me - I didn't know this was a common thing?

I look a lot younger than my real age, I'm 31 and still have to show ID if I want to buy alcohol. My partner is almost 40 and looks more like 30. He's also AS.

I mean I'm not complaining, its great and I do hope it lasts ;-) But its kinda annoying to have to carry my passport around with me all the time and the sort of looks I get when I march to the check out with a crate of beer are sometimes too funny.

Maybe the Neanderthal theory is correct and we DO age slower?

I don't know. Lot of people look younger, I think it's part of being human, not AS. Even my parents look younger than their age.

I used to look older than my age, now people are thinking I am younger now in my adulthood, the youngest someone had ever thought I was was 14 instead of 19. 8O But I was skiing and I had all that stuff on so all the lady could see was my face and the rest of me was all bundled up.

Now some people think I am in my late teens, sometimes 16 or 17.

I don't know if that's statistically true but I'm still asked if that's my real age which freakn' weird because I don't know what a 26 year old looks like. So I don't know whether to be flattered or down at the same time. :) :( :?

Young at body topic

Well, for me, my body is about as co-ordinated as a 10 year old. In this way, many see my movements as immature, and they are accurate!

At my school, if people don't know me, they always assume I'm a freshman. You should see their faces when I say I'm on my last credit!

And only three people have ever guessed I was my age or above it. One lady actually asked if I had any kids! But this happens very, very rarely. People sometimes think I'm even as young as ten... But at least everyone agrees I'm very smart and mature for my age. They typically say I'm very precocious.

At first, I hated them thinking I was younger than I am. But I've gotten so used to it now, it doesn't bother me in the least. And one thing I've also noticed from people is that if I try to look my age, they think I'm younger. But if I dress younger, they think I'm older! Sometimes I never understand people...

I have a portrait in my attic that does my aging for me.

it's also part of autism,am told am look like a fourteen year old and have known many older auties who are regulary age IDed wrongly.

it would be good to know if this turns out to be an actual physical part of autism and as.

maybe with auties and aspies being less likely to smoke, binge drink alcohol, take illegal drugs,go to very hot countries etc helps this part.

Yes, it is.

There was a study correlating AS treats...

Here it is.

Mantel-Haentzel (MH) pooled risk

Altered sensibility 69.3%

Prosopagnosia 28.9%
Special diet 37.7
Difficulty selecting 36.8
Sleeping disturbances 36%
Young appearance 42.1%

Hypersensibility to touch 31.6%
Hypersensibility to light 25.4%
Hypersensibility to sounds 33.3%
Hypersensibility to smell 34.2%
Hypersensibility to pain 11.4%

That's a pretty high figure. Next to the convined factor of altered sensibility, which I have hypersensibility to light and sounds and I used to have hypersensibility to touch which was somewhat improved. Then I also show sleeping diturbances and young appearance.

I never have had prosopagnosia, special diet, difficulty selecting and hypersensibility to touch, smell or pain. But it remains possible to our condition to have a mix of these.

It could be due to a few things....

-Life style. (aspies are less likely to go to parties, drink, do drugs, trash their bodies etc)
-Physically aging slower.
-Not wearing the latest clothing. (wearing what's comfortable may seem child-like to some)
-Not acting "socially appropriate". (as younger kids often don't)

But in all honesty, I really have no idea why. Those are just theories.

Well I do know I've never fit in with my age group emotionally...I'm either too childish or too mature..and oxymoron if you will.

About the drinking and drugs, I actaully used to cope with my social akwardness by drinking. I'm definitely a flat out alcoholic but have been in recovery for almost 2 years now. I've had people say I do look a lot better than I did when I used.

I look younger. It could be we don't develop mentally as well as phhysically.
