I set my TV to wake me up and I hide the remote so I can't turn it off in my sleep.

Most of the time, it works @_@

I used to be able to wake up on my own, and well I didn't feel like greeting the world half the time. So I'd lay in bed, half asleep, contemplating the exact time I should get up so as not to be late for anything, and would nearly doze off. This stage, was a stage NOBODY wanted to wake me up in, I would thrash and flail, surprised as all heck, scaring whoever tried to wake me up, just by a simple touch. This didn't happen very often, but I remember it now, as it's one of the reasons my mother would stand at the door and "snap" my name in a noticeable way for me to wake up, angrily and to the point. I usually got the message.

I use my mobile phone as an alarm clock. I set the alarm and switch off the mobile before I go to sleep. When it's time for the alarm to start ringing, the mobile switches itself on and makes a little beep and then pauses for a moment before the alarm itself starts ringing. The little beep is enough to wake me up and I can switch off the noisy alarm the second it starts ringing. :)

I can't use radio alarms because I'm used to normal noises being around when I'm sleeping and radio is among the things I "ignore" and sleep through. I hate noisy alarms though, they always startle me. That little beep from my mobile is perfect. :D

Laptop with free alarm software. I choose an mp3 for the type of mood I want to set in the morning.

Before I had cats to wake me up, I used a zen alarm clock (made by Now & Zen). I'd recommend it to anyone who's a light sleeper and prefers to wake gradually. It's just a single chime (although the mechanical click before the chime usually wakes me up) that goes off once, then again three minutes later, and repeats in a golden ratio progression until you turn it off.

On the extremely rare occasions that I use one (if I need to get up early but I'm exhausted when I go to bed and know I won't wake up), I use my phone's alarm. It is gentler than my alarm clock. Normally, though, I can wake up whenever I want, within 15 minutes.

Since I can't hear an alarm go off (I'm hard of hearing) I have to use one that has a vibrator and a light that flashes. It works really well! Its also really nice, my brother got one too (for the same reason as me).

those things are SO ANNOYING. I have a friend who's hard of hearing and i was sleeping in their bed one night before a regatta so i needed to set an alarm. not only was there the vibrator and the flashing light, but the alarm was SO LOUD. needless to say, i woke up pretty damn quickly.

for mine i have a buzzer that's on my bookshelf, about 4 feet from my bed. i hate my alarm, whenever it goes off, even if i'm awake and a few rooms away, i get extremely irritated. it works really well to wake me up, and i definitely need it for the first week or two of rowing.

Use Sonic Boom Alarm clock.... It is for the hearing impaired, but use vibrator only.

If I have an exam or an interview I turn on the ringer (115 decibels)

My cellphone. It's the only alarm that has ever worked for me  The tune is called calypso (or something like that) and it is ANNOYING.

I have an alarm clock that is a Hello Kitty one shaped like a coffee cup. It's also a dignital clock. It also has a radio on it too.

Well the funny thing is, is that I will set an alarm, usually a beeper alarm that usually scares the pee out of me, and ruins my day. But because of that, my body always wakes me up 2 minutes before the alarm goes off. The alarm never thus then goes off. I used to do this in class too though, so I guess it became trained. I'd sleep light and then wake up 2 minutes before the bell rang. Exactly. two. minutes. Did not even see the clock or anything. Didn't rely on any stimuli. I'm not sure why my internal clock is so precise at times. However, whatever this is is weird, because I can tell when someone is in my room at night, too. I can also tell when I've been disconnected from the internet, with no stimuli whatsoever to tell me so. However, I've always had sleeping problems and my sleep cycle is so iffy I don't know how my internal clock can be precise about waking up 2 minutes before a sound goes off, yet never work for anything else.

I'm not really AS, but my hearing loss has forced me to find an alarm system that I highly recommend to anyone: a vibrating travel alarm under my pillow. Starts gentle, and builds up. Main disadvantage is that there isn't an effective snooze function. Has a very long battery life, and no other sensitive functions, which makes it better than using a cell phone (had no idea people did that, but it is a very creative use!). I bought it on the internet from a shop specializing in products for the hearing impaired.
