Start contacting lawyers that specialize in disabilities. If your case is good enough, one will take it if he/she thinks it's setting a precedent.

Unfortunately, the Asperger theme backfired and now you're viewed as more disabled then the husband (this is how it sounds). That is unfortunate, but people with minimal knowledge about autism/Aspergers are misinformed. For instance, many still feel autism=cognitive delays.

Do you have a job? It would help if you were working outside the home? I thougth you mentioned you were collecting disability. Is this for your AS? Or, is there some other condition you have?

Best,

I've been there, done that. There are no lawyers in my area that specialise in disabilities. I do have a job. A full time job. I work for an adult service provider and most of my case load is AS or ASD kids. I am not on disability.

I'm considered one of the experts on autissm in my area. Ironic, huh? My case is completely and totally screwed up.

Once again, who is preventing you from leaving the state? What will happen to you if you do leave?

Also, have you thought of going to your local news? Call a reporter.

the father is keeping me here.. he is opposing my request for relocation. he claims that i am trying to 'interfere' with his visitation rights and that i NEVER let him see his son and that i never followed the visitation order the court set! its a lie beucase i have proof and witness for every time- and there arent many times- that he did see his son over the years. those witness now said they will speak for me in court to say to the court that he had no interest in his son and was abusive to me on those rare visits. under the law both parents have to agree to a move- even if the 'father' has never seen his child he still has 'rights' to some decisions in the childs life.
my attorney told me not to go any where with my son - under the laws here, i could get arrested for KIDNAPING if i left the state! a warrant would be put out for my arrest, it would go into the computer system and my ssi benefits would be cut thus leaving me and my son with no money, medical or medicine. its disgusting that the father can move about as he pleases, but i have to stay trapped here in NY while my husband waits for us in ohio.
i called Autisim united today and spoke to a person there who works for Spectrum magazine. shes mailing me a free copy of the magazine. shes going to try and get the local representitive for autisim united in my area to contact me. this representitive has been in the local news paper. i am hoping if she contatcts me and we speak she can offer me some help, advice or at least get my story perhaps in the newspaper...fingers crossed.. i got an apointment to talk with my attorney next week.. i will see how that goes. if i am not satisfiesd with how he deals with me, the woman i spoke to from Spectrum magazine said i can ask the judge to give me another attorney based upon that i feel he has been un professional and not done much on my behalf in my case. she told me to tell the judge some of the things he did/did not do for me. she said this will work because it happened to her and the judge gave her a new attorney. this is stressfull..
