Chat just doesn't appeal to me. I've never really understood it, and sometimes even the forums move too fast for me.

Obviously you have not visited the chat. Last night we had an in-depth discussion on superstring theory, for example. Definitely not NT chit-chat. :)

Oh no!! !! And here I was, proud of myself for not going to the chat Monday night. Wah.

(Of course, if I had gone, the topic would have eventually mutated into language, so you all were probably better off without me :-D )

That's how I felt about it before I went. I have always detested chatting and never seen what the appeal is. But there's something really enjoyable about it, which for me has two aspects:
    * It seems like real interaction with other people, and I like interacting with people whose posts I've read; you learn more about them in a more personal way

    * The topic wanders around to all kinds of subjects, and usually covers several things that interest me.

Having been to the chat 3 times now, I feel more related to several people here, and am developing a sense of WP camaraderie.
