i'm sure this has been asked before but i'm having a hard time navigating through this much information. my therapist believes i may have asperger's but she is not qualified of course to diagnose it. i would kinda like to know for myself but would really like to know because it may help my children. i am afraid to ask doctors though because i'm afraid they will think i'm...i dunno making it up or something? i just lost that therapist and am getting a new one that thank god i know and don't know if i should even mention it to her.

my daughter is having a lot of problems right now to the point she had to be placed in foster care until we can figure out how to help her. i also have a two year old boy who seems to maybe have some traits but it's hard to tell right now.

they may find out for my daughter but before they said she was ADHD and she does have traits of that but there are other things that fit more with asperger's like the social issues and i've heard that it can be misdiagnosed as ADHD a lot.

i don't know how to find out as an adult...they have a lot of testing for kids but i don't know if they do for adults and like i said i'm afraid to ask.

i live in colorado and don't know what resourses we have here really

that happens...

um....I am wondering the same thing.

What resources that are available are very difficult to navigate.
When I gather enough wits to go about it, I am gonna try to get a MHRA assessment.

A psychiatrist can do it. Or a specialist. Or even a GP apparently.

You might be entitled to a written summary of your therapist's findings, including her suspicion that you might have a pervasive developmental delay. You should find out if you are entitled to such, and in the event that you are, obtain the written summary.

You should present this information (ideally in a written summary from the therapist concerned, but alternatively convey the information verbally) to your current therapist, indicate why you think it needs to be pursued, and request the current therapist refer you, for assessment, to someone suitably qualified in the diagnosis of autistic spectrum disorders in adults.

If there is a finding (subsequent to assessment) of an autistic spectrum disorder, you should probably inform practitioners involved in the assessment of your (biological) children of the finding.
