The more tired I am, the worse my grammar and spelling is. I better stay away from those grammar Nazis when I am about to fall asleep, they won't like me all that much.

I used to have a couple grammars, but they both died a long time ago. They didn't much like me none nohow.

Did you say that wasn't proper? Did you march out on the track?

Well thank you buddy for your advice...

One of my worst habits is correcting the grammar and spelling mistakes that other people make. People tend not to appreciate it when I correct their speech but are ok with it when it is written work. Any letters I get from my school I send back with the spelling and grammar corrected because the director of the sixth form I go to is the worst culprit for language errors.

Yes, I do, but given my lack of fluency in English, I don't feel like I'm in a position to criticize anyone.

Anyway, it wouldn't really matter if it was in Spanish, my native language. Most people don't take that kind of criticism very well, anyway, so it's largely pointless to comment on other people's grammar.

I have always been very meticulous when it comes to proper spelling and grammar. In fact, my greatest pride at the end of high school was that I represented my region in our national spelling contest. The main reason I've chosen to work as a freelance proofreader is that I need a way to let my grammar Nazi impulses get some satisfaction.

Does anyone else get an eyebrow twitch when they see a sign or bag from that outlet store, "FCUK?"

they should though...they should

i'm kidding though...but i am admittedly a grammar nazi....I don't point out grammar mistakes to people (unless it's my boyfriend...and luckily he just thinks it's funny..i wouldn't do it otherwise)...and for the most part i don't mind bad grammar so much in an informal/text based setting like this..i am a writer though, so it is on my mind when reading..moreso when listening or revising stories/editing.

I have a few grammar books...one that I think a whole lot of people would like and appreciate is called, "The Deluxe Transitive Vampire; The Ultimate Handbook for the Innocent, the Eager, and the Doomed,"by Karen Elizabeth Gordon. It's a pretty strange grammar book..pretty funny too..actually it's hilarious. I wish I could carry a spare copy with me everywhere i went and just hand it out to people.

http://www.amazon.com/Deluxe-Transitive ... 306&sr=1-1

but really...i don't point things out to people..i know that would be annoying.....(but bad grammar is too  )

I'm a college English instructor. I wanted to study theology, but my parents moved after I graduated from college, and the small university where we moved to only offered an MA in English. I got an MA in English hoping to teach British Literature, and ended up teaching freshman writing for the rest of my life.
Until I started teaching it, I could care less about grammar.
Now, I obsess about it, even to the point of making up rules that don't exist, just to make sure everything is perfect. Occasionally, I'll get stumped by something that looks wrong to me, and I"ll bring it to my dad, who's been teaching English for 40 years, and he'll say, "Well, it's not the best style, but it's not grammatically wrong." And I'll say, "Yeah, but it could be interpreted as a run on, so if you . . .."

I don't usually point out grammatical issues in e-mail unless a) it's a fairly intellectual debate where the grammatical errors compromise the person's meaning and/or credibility or b) it's just funny and I point it out in humor.

I make plenty of typos myself when dashing off e-mails and message board posts.

However, I have been known to correct the grammar of university presidents, and certainly school and university support staff members. To me, if you're representing an educational institution, then you need to be perfect. I mean, I was recently forwarded an e-mail by the secretary to our state superintendent of schools, and the e-mail contained two very blatant errors (like, "where/were" or "their/they're"). That just infuriates me.

My students appreciate it, though, because they say they learn more from me in one paper than all their other English teachers put together (I try to explain the rules, not just mark them wrong, when I grade their papers).

All of that said, I just graded a paper where one of my students spelled out "asphalt" by breaking the two syllables into words that sound similar.

I hate the term grammar Nazi. It has nothing to do with the Nazis (the German National Socialist Party). It trivialises the horror and evil of Nazi ideology and the Nazi regime in Germany and German occupied Europe between 1933 and 1945. I don't know who thought of the term, but it has spread over the Web. I suggest another term such as grammar pedant and/or spelling pedant.

I like being correct in grammar and spelling and reading correct grammar and spelling. I am a grammar and spelling pedant but I don't correct other people's grammar or spelling.

I agree with what you say there..my English advisor told me that I did good. I wanted to shout "I did WELL!! I did WELL!! !! !"

he was trying to tell me that I wasn't exempt from the first English Comp. class.....which consequently, I was indeed exempt from English Comp. 1. thankfully....ugh

some grammatical errors really are too funny to ignore...especially when they really change the meaning in what the person is trying to say. I get confused speaking with my boyfriend a lot of the time

i also make plenty of grammatical errors in posts/emails etc. But I still always scan over things to check my grammar...i don't always correct things unless it is driving me particularly crazy!!

i still highly recommend, "The Deluxe Transitive Vampire." it's really great...
