Some of you may have heard already about AskAnAspie.com, a website I and several of my friends started last year as a place where parents of Aspie/Autie kids could come and ask questions, and have them answered by panelists who were on the spectrum themselves. We were going pretty strong for a while, but then I got distracted and forgot about it for a while, and since I'm the webmaster that pretty much brought the site to a halt.
But we're relaunching now, and I'm accepting applications to be part of the new and improved AskAnAspie panel. The requirements are as follows:
1) Must be an Aspie/Autie. Kind of a given
2) Must have good English Writing skills.
3) Must be willing to spend ~1 hour a week answering emails, more at first until we get the backlog cleared.
4) Must be willing to set aside personal political beliefs to help parents. If someone says "My son is 5 years old and non-verbal, though he has done much better after starting ABA therapy. I was wondering why he gets so agitated by the flourescent light in our kitchen" that is NOT an acceptable place to rant about the evils of ABA. Similarly, if their email signiture mentions CAN, that's still no reason to attack them.
5) College students preferred, although it's not an absolute requirement.
If, after looking over the site, you think you'd like to participate, send an email to [email protected]. Include a one-paragraph mini-bio of yourself and a short (500-600 words) essay about what having Asperger's means to you. If you're accepted, both of these will go on the "about us" page to let parents reading your answers know who they're talking to.
