I think eggs were a seperate sensitivity that "went away" as my guts were too damaged to absorb them.

They used to make me really ill as a child.

I notice white spots are gone from nails...for the first time in my life. Hair is also less dry.

I love the expression "inner digestive hassle" - pretty much says it all...I can't help wondering if the gluten/casein free diet approach to Autism doesn't originate from a fundamental misunderstanding of generations of undiagnosed celiacs desperately seeking comfort in bashing their heads on walls...

 I think that there may seriously be something in that.

Can you eat vegetables and fruit mechanicama?

Fruit is a very good instant food.

Also - I buy gluten free bread and I toast it for lunch - putting vegemite on it - yummy and filling.

I can tolerate pumpernickel bread well, again toast with lemon butter, good breakfast food.

I know it doesn't work with some people, but it's definitely helped me. I gave up gluten over the summer and I've never felt better in my life. The constant headache that I've always had just went away, and people have commented that I look healthier and more alert. I also know because a few of the times when I ate gluten without taking a gluten capsule I got a headache and had a difficult time functioning normally - it took me longer than usual to phrase sentences and do everyday tasks. It's so much easier to function when I don't eat things with gluten in them.

Hi, I have a good news... I used to have a stinky breath, and my hubby used to tell me "aaah go away!"; today he told that my breath smells nice ! So, the milk was the reason for that smell

That's great! :D Have you noticed any difference in your skin yet?

I can eat vegetables and fruit, but I am staying away from fruit until I trim off the last extra weight and am stable enough to know I won't gain weight with a normal carb intake.

I am not going NEAR gluten free bread or rice cakes till I achieve my desired weight - or I never will. We have some gorgeous "gluten frees" here like mini rice cakes with orange yoghurt topping that could become addictive.

Baked beans are as daring as I will go for a while... :)

I am just looking forward to not being terrified that every normal meal will make me fatter.

Don't eat too many nightshade portions. Burn if you must :)

I'm celiac and lactose intolerant... after glandular fever exasperated, vomiting ensued, which doesn't leave much room for negotiation. I don't mind, it was meant to nourish baby cows!

Safe foods, the Cruciferous family, mixed beans, seeds, um, smalls portions of lentils! Norralot! But I am not as exhausted, DH clears up and have shedded some cognitive blunting. Diet really is key to enhancing communicaton and motivation, immune response or otherwise.

Ah ok, enjoy what little you can! I have read too many conspicuous articles linking Nightshades to Arthritus and switched to yams, taking diet too far perhaps.

I am trying to loose weight at the moment also. I thought that only eating foods low on the glycemic index scale would help me to lose weight. That means I eat bread, but it needs to be wholegrain. Pumpernickel, two slices will last me from breakfast to lunch time, so I figure it must be low on the glycemic scale. It is a very rich dark brown bread - however it does contain gluten.Oats from what I understand don't gluten, but they don't agree with my digestive system.

Fruit is low on the glycemic scale, because it is rich in fibre.

Anyway, when I first realised wheat products did not agree with me, my intestines must have been a mess, cause I reacted to nearly everything for awhile. I even had to boil my water.

Lately I have been eating too much wheat and I am starting to react to it again, quite strongly.

I feel very wiped out and my skin is itching.

I need to be stricter with myself. :?

Not if it works. My joints are sore at the moment, wheat and milk makes my joints ache.

So what you are trying to say is "gather ye nightshades while ye may"?

I only eat aubergines, tomatoes and courgettes...never like potatoes...so I will stay as I am until the weight comes off then start with yams...I LIKE yams...I just haven't had them for years...

Actually the West Indian diet is heavy with yams, fried green bananas (a bigger, different strain to the eating ones), black eyed peas and such...which is VERY gluten free stuff, and, to my recollection, GORGEOUS filling food for when I get the weight off.

Amistel, you MUST get off the wheat...seriously, totally...not just six days a week and toast on Sundays  ...

ZERO TOLERANCE, for life...

When you go "gluten free" your intestines HEAL (it takes months) and can be hypersensitive to everything for a while...but they become more sensitive to wheat for good - it 's an auto immune reaction, not an allergy. Even one slice of rye bread can put you right back where you started for days...

At the moment I am staying away from fiber as my stomach is still to unstable to risk too much "residue" (I am sure I don't need to draw any pictures? )
