How many of you Aspies want to be like a toddler???

Hi there!! ! I'm back!! !

I am SO SORRY that I haven't posted for such a long time. What
happened was that I was taking community college classes in History
from September until December, and I needed to get good grades
(I would end up with a A in my California History class, and a B in
my Western Civilization class) so that I could get those two courses
in undergraduate requirements thrown out that I needed to get fully
admitted into the master degree program in history at Louisiana Tech.
If everything goes the way it should, and mom and dad allow me to
go to Louisiana (my wonderful aunt is trying to convince my parents not
to let me go), then I will be at Louisiana Tech in Ruston, Louisiana by
March 1st, and in all likelihood, I will be flying there before that even.
Once I move to Louisiana, I can post more notes to this board, because
I will then have the internet on 24/7 virtually. Right now, my parents
are very overprotective of me and they think I might get into trouble
on the internet, so they usually let me only have about 1-2 hours a
night on the internet, plus I buy lots of things on Ebay, and they are
not happy with my spending habits on Ebay. So I don't have a lot of time
to write long messages. However on weekends, sometimes I am able
to be on the internet for 4 hours even - as long as my parents are
out and my brother is around. My brother is actually 24 years old and
I am 28 years old but sometimes I feel like HE's my OLDER brother,
and that I'm the younger one, because in many aspects, he's far more
mature than me. But then of course, on the other hand, he also doesn't
have Asperger's Syndrome, unlike me. Usually I should be looking
after my younger brother, but sometimes I feel he's more like
babysitting me than the opposite. Because of the fact I was busy
with school and the fact that my parents limit my internet, I haven't
been able to write long messages....that is, until now...

How many of you people out there with Asperger Syndrome want to
behave or be like a toddler? Is there a enormous preponderance of
people with Asperger Syndrome to want to be like a 2 year old or
4 year old?? Do people with AS get along better with little kids than
most other people? Is there some sort of "Infantilism" among
AS people?? I can't help but wonder, because it seems like many people
I have talked to who have Asperger's or high functioning autism, seem
to say to me that they too are like little kids or they wish they were
like a preschooler or a toddler. Has this been shown to be a fact yet?
I looked under Yahoo but found nothing about that. Is there some
level of developmental regression in people with Asperger's??

In almost every way I am virtually like a 2 year old toddler. Maybe
that's why I can't find a girlfriend, but then on the other hand, I know
a lot of "normal" people or NTs as you call them, that cannot find
wives or girlfriends either and who do not have any quirks or
weird or eccentric points to them at all and are wonderful people. So
I suppose it's more than just Asperger Syndrome why I can't find
a girlfriend.

You could say that I am an eternal 2 year old. And toddlers seem to
notice it too. I could list about 30 ways why I am like a toddler but
if I explain all of them, my message will be so long that you would
never finish reading my message. In short, except for the fact I
can write essays (and my essays tend to be really simple language
words - not all this flowery language - my geography professor in
college when I was getting my BA degree in geography complained
that my research paper was about what a 11 year old would write. For
example, I used the word "Baby cows" instead of "heifers" - sheesh,
the word "heifers" never even crossed my mind while I was writing
that research paper at all, and that's just one example), and that
I don't wear diapers (but then plenty of 2 1/2 year olds do NOT wear
diapers either, and are toilet-trained), and that I don't really talk in
baby talk, in almost every other way I am like a toddler more or less.
I get really excited about stuff I get in my mailbox that would in no
way shape or form even make any normal 28 year old be happy.
For example, if I got a free pack of pacifiers in the mail, that would
make me happy. If I got a pair of old Mary Janes or T-strap shoes
from the 1970s or 1980s in the mail from a Ebay seller, that would
make me very happy (even though I can't wear them obviously -
I collect children's mary jane and t-strap shoes - maybe I'll save it
for my child when I have one). A map from a realtor makes me
happy and I have 300 maps altogether, including 5 road atlases .
I am like a walking atlas to keep a long story short. I can tell you
how to get anywhere. I was actually a state finalist in the California
National Geography Bee in 1990 when I was in 8th grade. My areas
of specialty include Norfolk, Virginia (and anything within a 55-65
mile radius of there including Williamsburg); Greenville, South Carolina;
Peachtree City, Georgia; Portland, Oregon; ALL of California; Charleston,
South Carolina; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Oshkosh, Wisconsin;
Fargo, North Dakota, and more and more. What else do I get excited
by in the mail - hmmm.... 45 rpm records from the 1950s and 1960s,
Teletubbies backpacks, ANYTHING to do with Teletubbies. In fact, the
only thing I don't have that is Teletubbies is a Teletubbies bed sheet
and pillowcase, and a Teletubbies soup bowl/dishes. That is about it.
I have 6 Teletubbies backpacks. When I was in college away from
home in 1998-2000, I actually went around college and town with
a Teletubbies backpack!! ! LOL.

From what I understand, as you probably all know, most radio stations
have "target ages" - that is, they know what age group their radio
station is targeting. Having called lots of oldies stations (I listen
to oldies stations that play music from the 1950s up until the
early 1970s, and I also listen to pop music from the 1970s to early
1990s, basically soft rock), I know for a fact that the target age
audience of most oldies stations seems to be adults in their mid
40s to mid 60s (well what do you expect?? They grew up with that
music), and surprise surprise, the other target age group seems to be
toddlers, preschoolers, and younger children. I can't ever figure out
why toddlers love oldies music so much, but maybe it is because it
is music that is nice and understandable instead of say, hip hop,
alternative, rap, etc which I cannot stand at all. I actually even love
Barry Manilow music!! ! But, seriously folks, I have been observing
toddlers for a long time (not much at all now, but I used to back in
1996-1999. I would just observe them, even though I wasn't taking
any classes in early childhood ed - now, I still observe them, but more
in restaurants when I'm eating, or malls. I watch their behavior closely).
Anyway, one thing I noticed is that in all the preschools I have been
at, it seems like there are only 2 genres of music - and those are
children's music, and (well, is it any surprise by now??) oldies music!! !
I do find oldies music tapes/CDs in preschools and toddler schools.

I am going to post in a next post because this letter is getting too long
now so I am going to post the rest of what I have to write in a next
post.

I told you I talk like a 2 year old.....nonstop!! !

You may in fact be an eternal child. I recommend buying some Depends adult disposable diapers and seeing if peeing and cacaing in your pants seems, well, right to you. If it does, more power to you! Just an idea.

i wouldn't recommend the nappies idea, though - there are ceratin associations with grown-ups wearing nappies, and you usually have to pay...

perhaps there's a case here for never losing that childlike senss of awe and wonder, which is socialised out of most adults. i hope i never lose mine. not sure i fancy sucking on a dummy, though.

I am not interested in wearing diapers. Sorry.
Goodnites makes training pants for children 70 to 125 lbs. Unfortunately
I am 179 lbs. Plus, as I mentioned I am toilet trained and I don't
have a need for a diaper, so that's how the ball bounces I guess.

Old music rocks. Technically, I'm more into 60s, 70s, and 80s. I like anything from that era, but classic rock is definitely my favorite. Ringo Starr and John Lennon are gods.

Barry Manilow is great too. My brother and I have slightly er...comandeered our parents old LPs and there's quite a few Barry Manilow albums.

Regressing is the furthest thing from my mind! I have waited all my life to get "old" and have people stop treating me like a teenager. Not only did I get asked for ID when I ordered a glass of wine with dinner on my 41ST BIRTHDAY but no one believes my kids are my kids!
I am rejoicing in my first strands of grey hair. I'll throw a party whenever my first wrinkle appears.

I am an aspie who is happy to be an independent adult, and getting here hasn't been easy. Although I'm child-like in many ways (feminine in some too), growth seems to be the usual course of life as I see it. NT or aspie, we develop, mature, take on responsibilities. I don't want to be a child again. Those were unhappy years for me.

I do not think of myself as a toddler so much anymore. Now, I think I'm atleast on the level of a 6 year old.

Intellectually, I would say I'm atleast 45. But socially and emotionally, yes, probably about 6. It's hard to explain, but I just feel small and childlike. It may have something to do with my height (4'10), but a lot of people treat me as though I am much younger than I am. I am 21, and I still get offered children's menus at restaurants from time to time .

I like children's things, as well, cartoons, animation, stuffed animals, animals, etc. I have never been into the things people my age find fun, like drinking and partying and loud music.

I also find that children are attracted to me, and that I get along well with them. The other day, I was walking down the street with two friends, and this woman was walking with her two children towards us. The mother and the daughter walked past us, but the little boy ran straight into my legs! I looked down and said "Hi there" and he just sort of looked up at me with a pleasantly surprised look on his face and ran around me. It was quite amusing.

I don't intend to be like a toddler, but that's just how my actions come out sometimes.

i some times act like i am 2 most of the time its not inteded but i do find that acting like a toddiler and wearing / using diapers to be very relaxing and theriputic (for me any way)

My goodness!

While AS does often make Aspie very child-like in how we think - we retain an imaginative, curious and wondering nature longer than most NTs - I don't think the should be taken to mean we are inclined to acting like toddlers or infants all our lives. Again, AS is supposed to be high-functioning and Aspies are often very independent minded people. Infants and toddlers are not high functioning and are not independant-minded, just very ego-centric, irrational and reactionary.

I have no desire to a baby or treated like one. In fact I strongly object to being mothered or patronized. I've always been strong-willed and autonomous, a "I can do it myself so bug off" type, even when I was a toddler. I have a child-like mind and inner nature in many ways, but I never aspired to be childish, needy, dependant or otherwise perpetually immature.

This sounds like a fetish, and fetishes are independant from AS. Fetishes are commonly associated with sexual acts, but not all fetishes have to be sexual. Some cross-dressers for example do so simply because they find therpuetic. Infantilism can be a sexual fetish, but not always. There are even cases of grown women or men who have relstionships, either sexual or non-sexual, with someone where the partner plays a father or mother role, with them assuming the role of a child. Their relationship is modeled after that of a child and parent, either implicitly or explicity (one might entertain the idea that this is the kind of relationship Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles has), rather that of two adults.

At any rate, that's all I'll say about fetishes - such a topic would be better suited for the mature forum or at least the members only forum.
