mensa??

Hi -
Was just wondering if anyone was in mensa (or wanted to admit to it).
I'm thinking about doing the test, as it seems like an interesting thing to do, and offers possible social opportunities. Wondering though they're probably mainly NT, perhaps there'd be an overrepresentation of spectrum people there?

Bragging rights, of course. And it looks really good on a job or college application.

For me, it would be like a challenge, just to see whether I am capable of getting in. I have not yet attempted it, though; I think getting the required IQ test takes a lot of money.

If you are over 14, the Mensa admission IQ test costs $30 in the U.S.

If you are 14 or younger, then you may join only with "prior evidence" of an IQ in the top 2% of the population. You may use "prior evidence" if you are over 14 as well.

We're getting a consensus here. I qualify, and went as a guest to a few Mensa meetings.
I didn't feel sufficiently inspired to join, though I would suspect a higher than average AS representation.

When I was doing my teacher's training in the early 90's there was a lot of controversy about Mensa being a fascist organisation - but the college was very left wing in its thinking so it may have been a reaction to elitism.

IIRC in '94 (or '95, can't be bothered to google it) a Californian Mensa group published a newsletter which suggested people with low IQs should be sterilised.

For the Wechsler, is approx. 130+ the top 2%? I always assumed it was higher than that but the last psychologist who tested me said it was around there. Or at least I tested my worst score ever at 132 and he said I was still in the top 2%. (I'm getting dumber with age.)

Anyone else know?

so why should I pay £40 a month to be able to form special interest groups, when I can easily find people in real life who will do the same for FREE. And buy me beer to go with it XD
