im thinking about getting on some ant-depressants because im really tired of my life going nowhere. i used to take them when i was a teenager, and i can rememebr it always seemed like i had something to do, had freinds and did things in the community. i dont know how i would pay for them though, because i have no insurance. how much are they these days anyways? if there not too much i may just pay for them myself. once i turned 18 i basically stopped taking them because i thought i was an adult, and didnt have to listen to anyone

also i was so against them in the past because ive had terrible reactions to anti-psychotics before, namely risperdal. it was awful, and seroquel made me sleep for days. so i wont be taking any of those ever again

I have caved.

Not for too long, just enough to de-slump myself. I don't like the side effects.

Wal-Mart offers the generics of Prozac, Paxil, Elavil, and Celexa on their $4 list. I think it's like $4 for month's supply.

2 days ago medication for my OCD was mentioned, but it's unlikely that I'll take it.

wow, wal-mart has unbeatable prices for everything. i supose i can make an appointment with the guidance center again but i wont be looking forward to that since hardly anyone knows what there doing there. im also worried about the side effects, jesus. maybe i should just take a placebo and trick myself saying, "its the real deal, and you will feel better" ive read storys that the mind can be easily tricked, and in doing so i wouldnt have to take meds

Remember you're getting the placebo effect with any real medication you take, as well, so it's not like you're having to choose. You also get the placebo effect, along with other benefits, when you do things like therapy, diet (as in "eat good food" not "starve yourself", which makes you more depressed), or exercise (something which you LIKE, not something you hate, which again makes you more depressed). All of those things fight depression too. The reason people recommend both antidepressants and therapy is that they help those things work better. For example, if you're too depressed to have the mental power to plan good meals, they might give you enough of an edge that you can. Even if you KNOW you are going to get a placebo effect along with some treatment, that doesn't stop the placebo effect.

If a doctor wants to prescribe a placebo, he will give you something that is generally beneficial but not specifically a treatment for the condition. For example, many doctors will prescribe vitamin pills, painkillers that you could buy over the counter, or (bad idea, but doctors do it anyway) antibiotics. They don't actually tell the patients that these things are some other thing; the placebo effect gets activated just because you're taking something prescribed by a doctor, and it feels like it ought to help. Even if it's the same aspirin you would've bought at the grocery store, there's something that feels different about getting it from a pharmacy.

Oddly enough, the placebo effect is a great deal more powerful than some medications--all you have to prove is significant benefit and the absence of unacceptably dangerous side effects; so you could do a clinical trial on which 40% of the patients taking placebos improve, and 45% of the patients taking the medication improve; and the medication would then be approved for sale. (I think antidepressants have a similarly narrow margin, which is why they are a lot more of an extra boost than a cure.)

I think this comes about simply because the mind and body want to heal themselves, and will take any opportunity to do so.

Heh. Well, almonds aren't actually going to hurt you. And the ARE good for your brain. My mom always sent me almonds around finals time.

Mind you, it can be really important to get help if you're going to do something to hurt yourself. Better drugged for a few months than dead.

Just ask the doctor for a bunch of free samples for whatever crazy pill you need or take. Usuually they will give em to you, specially if you tell them you are really poor and other stuff.

Almonds are where cyanide comes from. Almonds used to have a lot of cyanide in them a long long time ago, but I suppose it has been bred out of them by now. I'm sure almonds still have trace amounts of cyanide in them.

Aually, the price of medicine has dropped EVERYWHERE. Walmart, CVS, walgreens, and several other places have ways of dropping prices even FURTHER. If you are REALLY poor, the medicines are very expensive, or you are on assistance, there are ways to get them for even LESS.

I DID cave to antidepressants, but eventually went off of them. For the moment, I am doing a lot of things that fall short of such drugs.

Cyanide is the radical --C=N.
I think you might mean apricots because I've heard that rumor a lot about them.
Vitamin B-12 (cyanocabalamin) also has -CN,
but it works differently in organic compounds like that than poisonous cyanides of metals.

I'm on paroxetine. I don't think of myself as 'caving'.. I have no real problems about going on medication. I'm on it for depression and anxiety and bulimia, and I just want to get better.

yeah i guess im so cynical about taking meds because when i was in the mental hospital and we would have group in the morning the doctors would ask everyone how they liked there medications. and let me tell you everyone liked them wayyyyyyy to much. like if they were so proud to be on all these hardcore drugs. its like hello are you for real? what is wrong with you? i just couldnt believe it. i guess i havent come to that point in my life were i sellout to drugs.

thug 4 life you know what im saying?

I didn't mean that cyanide is where almonds orignally came from. I worded it wrong, sorry. Almonds used to produce cyanide back a long long long time ago. I'm sure it has been removed from the tree nut or bred out or something.

I never heard that apricots produced cyanide or ever did. Is it the seed from the apricot that produces the cyanide?
