Some people think that people with autism spectrum disorders can't tell lies. I want to say that that's a stereotype/myths. I was wondering how many of you there that have lied before for whatever reasons.

I can't tell a lie to save my soul. I used to be able to do small, "white" lies as a child, but not anymore. I have the opposite problem, I tell the truth too much and people don't want to hear it, especially at work!

When I lie, it's usually to get myself out of hot water.

I can lie. I do it a fair bit. It depends what situation though. Sometimes I don't feel like talking so I say I didn't see someone's message, I lie a bit at work to avoid trouble, etc.

The thing that catches me out are little spontaneous things, where I don't realise lying is an option.
Example: Being asked to fill in stupid unit evaluations at uni, and someone comes to our lab asking if we completed them during friday's lecture, so I say I wasnt in fridays lecture and asked for one, and he thanks me for my honesty and then I'm in a daze thinking about what there was to lie about :P

Also, I tend to always give an honest opinion when chatting to people. Again, I don't realise I could have lied about various things until they make a note of this honesty I seem to possess

Only to the cops.
Otherwise, I completely suck at it. I am very good at being evasive though.

I wouldn't say that I can't tell a lie, but it's very difficult for me.

I did tell a lie when I was in the first grade, and I'm still haunted by it, 35 years later. I was on the playground, and these two horrible boys (one with a crew cut) came up from behind and pulled down my elastic waistband pants. I was so upset, I cried and went to tell the adult on duty. But I couldn't bring myself to actually say that someone had pulled down my pants, so I led the adult to where the boys were, and then I chickened out and pointed at the first kid I saw and said she had hit me. It was this nice, clean-cut girl, who was just quietly swinging. And I said she had hit me. Well, the adult didn't buy it, so the girl just got a half-a$$ed warning, but I felt like such a spineless wuss. :(

Telling lies is difficult for me; I always want others to know the truth. Just about the only thing I lie about on a continual basis is my education, because I'm afraid people would be very angry and upset with me if I told them the truth.

I remember learning how to lie, but it takes a lot of effort to keep a straight face and to be convincing. I'm never comfortable with it.

Before, yeah. Has anybody ever believed me? I doubt it. I've just given up, and I now try to be honest in all situations. I'm a terrible liar. :(

I can lie REALLY well. Of course I never take advantage of this unless I REALLY need it.

I don't lie, I just don't tell the whole truth... it's easier that way. But if I do lie, it's easy to detect that I'm lying.
