How Many People Here Are actually Autistic or have Aspergers

I'm getting tested in January but my primary doc did some screening and believes I have it, and has sent me for the testing. Also some family members believe I have it. I scored very 'high' on the preliminary screening, far outside 'normal' ranges.

It's the same for me, in reverse...I was diagnosed this year and the more I learned about Asperger's, the more I realized my Dad has many Aspie traits. He is probably not severe enough to receive an official Dx, but I can see the pattern. Those traits are more concentrated in me and so I am diagnosable.

I called in an intermittent Leave of Absence day and read the whole thread. I recognize a lot of what GaryVW is expressing. Back in the covered wagon days of the 1940's and 50's there was an established set of social rules that were presented (or pounded, depending on your obtuseness) into young people so even if we didn't understand the note, we knew the rote. This is not so codified in the 1970's and 80's and 90's. Also having a home computer and linking to the internet indicates a certain financial strata of which those that don't have it are folks under represented on the internet in general and WP in particular.

As for that, I see an older adult reacting to bellyaching teenagers like older adults do. I used to do it all the time, and yet, people have still not banned me, as yet. (thanks, QM and MrMark!)

People found that out about me, well one guy did because he noticed a bunch of other autistic people type the same way. So yes it is possible.

If you click on people's names, their profile says what their diagnosis or otherwise is. But I find ASDs present very differently in different people, and people can teach themselves some NT skills through non-NT means. I'm not quite sure how you'd tell online though, because a lot of it is nonverbal, and written language has styles which can easily be learnt by imitation. I can adapt my written style quite easily to different situations, although can't really do the banter thing.

Ditto. My profession is a writer, so you may not be able to tell easily from my typing, but in person I might have a LOT of trouble coming up with the right word or phrase, knowing when to talk, even stuttering a bit sometimes just to get my point across. I tend to be socially reserved because I don't want to say something wrong or stupid, while I know in my writing I'm usually ok.

This question comes up occasionally.

The "multiple of three" game is just a way of making the software a bit quicker. Rather than updating the view counter every time a view occurs, Alex made it update, by three, on every third access.

I did make a suggestion, some time ago, that Alex could adopt a rather more devious solution - that it should update the count by a random value, chosen equally from the range 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 - which would have the same effect, but not make it all look so "suspicious".

I though I had HFA but my diagnoses says aspergers.

I'm just grateful as heck nobody has to explain what the view counter IS. Yeah I know some stuff about computers but I wish people wouldn't make anyone who does into a super-geek-guru. Mostly I just wnat to be left far far alone when it comes to explaining anything to people.

I love the view counter. :-)

I mentioned the number of 'views' and 'time' cycle in one post as a hint but nobody caught on to the message so I figured for sure that a lot of people weren't tuned into the trivia as I call it about the things I see all around me so for awhile I was pretty disappointed. I guess as it turns out the freaks and geeks just haven't seen the thread yet so it may get interesting yet.
