I have noticed that those people with naf mobile phones are older or uncool. Since I am working on my image, do you think that I should buy a new mobile phone and trendier mobile phone.

Having a manky old mobile phone, might give the image that you have a pay-as-you-go mobile and do not have many friends to call using it. Does any of you guys have an old mobile phone?

Mine not old but since I have a habit of breaking things and had to replace my phone a bunch of times I actually told the guy at the phone store I wanted the toughest one they had its relaitivy big ,not a flip phone and has a ruberize coating . I dont make a lot of calls and its in my pocket most of the time so nobody sees it anyway. And it hasn't broke yet

If you are looking to improve on an image, I think there's many more things that will give you more bang for the buck than a cell phone. Most of the time, a cell phone is only seen for the short time you are talking on it. The rest of the time, it's in a pocket. I'd go for some more stylish clothes more than anything, since that's what is seen most often.

...or course you're asking someone here that doesn't really care very much about image. Keep in mind, newer, smaller cell phones even though they have all sorts of gadget and toy features, don't work as good as the old ones when it comes to actual calls because they don't have as good RF power. They will give you poor performance in fringe areas and within buildings

As an NT with an Aspie brother I can say that Aspies are usually slow to keep up with trends. It's a good idea to always go with the flow and dip your feet into whatever the crowd's doing. That way you can know why they're doing whatever they are doing and understand their references and focal points of interest. As the Nike slogan goes Just Do It.

Hey---just a question. Is there a reason that you are working on your image? My little sister is forever trying to get me to change. "Bend to the Trend" and all that garbage. I do try to represent a more NT person now that I am influencing my son. (No more blue hair *sigh*)
You, of course, don't have to answer. I am just curious.

The thing is what ever you do it has to fit in with your personality. Like when you see a politician wearing a t-shirt you think they are a cringe worthy trying to be something they are not.

What style and cool are depends upon your age and location. To teenagers and to a lesser extent the rest of society style is about defining a group that you are part of. For example Goths, punks, Nerds, chavs all have distinctive styles that we can recognise. The style is part of an attitude of a group, with punks it is about not conforming to society, with geeks is about genuine disinterests with style. This is why style is a useful tool as it sends out messages about you that others recognise and make judgments about them based upon it.

As people get older their style is set upon them by social requirements of their jobs and the activities they partake in.

If you get in to style in the design community life gets a lot easier (I’m in architecture). We debate is so much that that logic behind it becomes a science. Then the key thing is for it to be personal to you; as a designer you set styles for others to follow - so creativity and difference is celebrated. Also as in the relation between haute couture and high street fashion we are expect to be a bit more extreme than most people. The down side is that 99% of the population think you are pretentious.

As for the mobile phone it all depends on your personality and style. As with anything I would not buy is because it will make you look cool buy it because you want one.

What type of people are you trying to impress that would actually care what your cell phone looks like?

I had a kinda old mobile phone until November, when it broke. Not surprising as I dropped it about 99 times. So now I have a smart new 3 mobile phone, with a camera, video recording, internet links and everything. I love this new phone but I'd bought it with a £20 off deal at Superdrug, and only really need a phone for calls and texts i.e. out of necessity.

I've never been one for buying ANYTHING to keep up with the Joneses. Only as and when needed.

Cool mobile phone, hmmmm

Me having 2 very decent phones should know a bit about this, a Nokia 6230 is an ideal phone, or even it's newer version, 6230i, which is just the same apart from a few improvements.

For the flip-phone option I can suggest the Motorola V3 RAZR, a slimline phone which is also ideal for the cool factor, I'm getting one when my contract runs out next month

Or alternatively, if you can't afford any of those, have a look on eBay for a Motorola V600, an older phone but has cool factor, it has colour screen and camera so is still modern enough

I only have a really old prepaid, and noone calls me much.... :(
BUT... I am comfortable with who I am.
You'll be liked and respected more for being confident with being yourself and treating people decently than for being able to keep up with the latest trends.
If the people you know are so shallow as to judge a person by whether or not they have the latest phone, clothes, whatever, then in my opinion they are undeserving of your or anyone else's friendship.

In my experience, your wealth is inversely proportional to the coolness of your cell phone. I've known a few multimillionaires, and they all had cheap phones that were probably thrown in for free with their cell phone plan. On the other hand, I know people who don't make much money and are chronically broke, yet they invariably have a RAZR or something else with 50 million ringtones and a camera and an automatic butt-wiper and everything.

It makes sense, too. People don't get wealthy by blowing all their money on silly things like cell phones that function the same but look cooler than a cheaper model.

You assume I have a mobile phone! (Older guy, and therefore probably uncool anyway)

I have one I see about once a month, to check it's still charged. It lives in my car for emergency purposes. At home I have a phone with answerphone and e-mail. At work I have a receptionist. More in touch than that I don't want to be.
Given the numbers of phones that go off while I'm trying to examine people (And frequently they answer them!) my favourite mobile phone accessory is a 2lb lump hammer.

OK, different planet again!

I understand the importance of money, and I will strive to get as much as possible, come my birthday I will ask for a raise at my workplace. I am also checking out my budget to see if there is any waste.

Judging people by their appearance and cool factor is all the NT world. They buy the most fashion able cloths and latest mobile phone, and a nice car.

If you ask them are they doing it to be cool, you get a no they are doing it for themselves and they don’t care about what others think. What whole lot of crap they like to give, those NTs, They lie to themselves until they believe it. If they lied to a dead donkey is swear that dead donkey would get up and kick them. It seems that many of those NTs have mind-washed you guys also.

I can tell you that it is ok for an NTs to believe this stuff about not caring about what other people think, simply because they do the opposite regardless. But I am an Aspie and I know that my actions have a logical reason.

The reason why I am alone is not because
1. I am insecure.
2. appear unhappy and clingy
3. because I try to hard to find someone
4. I don’t try hard enough
5. Only care about improving the superficial
6. I think woman are attracted to money and power
7. I think love is materialistic

It is because I have Aspergers Syndrome, and that kills my cool factor in half. Yes I am working on those superficial things, but this does not compromise any work I am dong towards those non superficial things.
