I have the same thing going with my sense of smell. Mine is with cigarette smoke. I can tell if someone was smoking in a room even if it has been hours after it happened. What's worse is that my dad tells me not to let it bother me. He doesn't get that there's nothing that I can do about it.

Oh, I have REAL problums with certurn smells, too...

I just can't stand the smell of eggs. x_x;; To the point where I don't like them being made in the house, I can even smell them from my room with the door closed...it's true, and it's scary....

And my dad LIKE'S eggs, too...and eating them here as well. We like have to spray arasol and burn insence everytime he eat's them soo I don't feel too sick. (though he tries not to have them here too often)

It's funny...I don't mind the smell of eggs soo much in baking and mixed with the overall smell of suger. I love the way cookies smell...freaky huh?

Actually that would be because the other smells of the baking overpower the smell of the egg. The result being a unique smell, rather than a huge mix of smells that dont really blend together.

People in person.

I was the only person in the mental hospital who was confined to his room when he wasn't walking in the gardens--just an example. Suffice to say, solitude and social isolation are the ideal ways of life for me.

I don't like the feeling of sun lotion or cream being rubbed on me
Shouting or screaming
Touching stickers
Certain forms of being touched

I don't like the feel of any type of lotion on me. I almost always refuse to wear sunscreen because of it; however, because I shave my head now I am a little more willing to put it on my head (but only after time in the sun).

Also, the sound of politicians talking sends me shrieking--especially democrats! :D  <~~ Look I made a funny!

I have problems with taking a shower because of how my skin feels afterwards. I'd think it was something dermatological, but it doesn't really matter what I do. It doesn't matter where I take the shower, my house, someone else's, a hotel, etc (so it's not an issue of minerals in the water), the temperature of the water (even if its literally freezing... one time the heat was broken but I had to be in class), what soap I use or even if I use soap. When I get out, my skin itches like holy hell and burns and is all red.

If I didn't have such a sensitive sense of smell and didn't hate casually running my fingers through my hair (which seems to be one of my stims) and feeling the tiniest bit of grease, I'd never shower. As it is, I shower as little as possible (which is to say about every other day). Every doctor I've seen has dismissed my inflammed skin as "sensitive" and told me to shut up about it.

That sucks, try to get a real dermatologist, so you can get something that might help it.

I actually went to a dermatologist before as opposed to a family doctor (or just mentioning this to my neurologist) and she gave me a cream that turned out to be carcinogenic. She never told me what the problem actually was.

I have some serious trust issues. When one doctor in a field turns out to be incompetent, I assume every doctor is.

I can't stand people shouting, it hurts my head. I also can't stand people whispering in my ear, gives me the heeby jeebies.

Also old tvs sound terrible when left on standby. The smell of certain things and anyone touching me or even getting in my personal space. I also can't stand the feel of certain fabrics like wool or too many layers and I hate tight clothes (including clothes that fit) and generally being restricted in any way.

I don't know if this is an Aspie thing or not but I'm really sensitive to bright sunlight. I find that I use my hand to shade my eyes and squint even on overcast days sometimes when other people don't. Driving in a car through a city is horrible for this as well because the light constantly changes every other second as you drive past the buildings. So I'm constantly moving my hand trying to block out the rays of sunlight that burst through the gaps between the buildings.

I hate sticky/wet things being on my hands, too, to the point were I can't let the my hands touch anything else because it just feels so awful on my skin.

I also have issues with my hair/head/face being wet. I absolutely hate the feeling of it. Even just seeing a picture or video of someone with wet hair makes me cringe in discomfort.

---

This is a bit off topic, but I'd rather ask here as it's about sensory issues, rather than create a new thread for what might be a simple "yes/no" question;

When I was about 11, I remember being frustrated with my hair being on my face. I kept pushing it back and putting it behind my ears but it always fell back again. For some reason, that day, I just couldn't stand the feeling of my hair against my face/neck. I couldn't stand the feeling of bobbles at that age, either so I couldn't put my hair up to help. Anyway, I remember getting so angry and upset with the feeling of my hair being on my face that I started crying and pulled on my hair really, really hard, to the point that my head ached for hours afterwards. I just wanted my hair out of my head so it would stop the feeling. I just couldn't tolerate it. It seems like such an odd thing to get so upset and angry about, that I wondered if it could have been some kind of minor sensory meltdown?

Creams burn my skin. I'm surprised you can put on sunscreen. I get the worst allergic reaction to it - itchy red blotchy skin. I prefer being sunburnt.

Maybe it's the pressure of the water. Or you could try taking baths if possible. My bathtub is square rather than round so baths aren't very comfortable.
I remember using my bf's towels and they would make my skin red and sore because the fiber was coarser than my towels at home.

Anniemaniac: I can't stand bright light too. I have to wear reading glasses outside lol.
And I get annoyed by my hair too. When I was getting my hair cut my long fringe was on my face and I couldn't move so I had to take it itching my face. Luckily I only got a trim.

Water pressure? I never even considered that as a possibility, but it would explain why swimming doesn't mess with my skin but showers do. Interesting. I'll try messing with the shower head to lower the pressure. Thanks.

My biggest sensory frustrations usually involve sound and occaisionally smell. the smell of menthol and eucalyptus burns my sinuses and gives me a massive headache.
Most car stereos produce some kind of feedback or vibration on the higher pitched sounds. usually female singing, sometimes electric guitars etc. something about the sound cuts right through the bones behind my ears.
I dont like people touching me because even when clean and dry other peoples skin always seems to feel clammy to me.
Sometimes the skin on my back becomes so hyper sensitive that even breathing or the movement of my shirt is extremely painful. any kind of movement of tweaking of the fine hairs causes pain. most people dont believe me about this one.
