I did an all-nighter almost 2 weeks ago. The Rochester Area Youth For Christ Group had its annual all night event and they needed bus drivers. My schedule was from 9pm to 3am. By 3am, I figured I may as well stay up for the rest of it.

The funny thing is that I only needed 3 cans of Mountain Dew all night to stay awake.

Frequently. Say two or three times a month or thereabouts. My best writing ideas seem to come just as I am falling asleep and then I absolutely have to pursue them. If I don't they either nag at me all night until committed to paper or I lose them forever due to my lousy memory. I also obsess over computer art, books, and sometimes random worries.

Actually, according to people in the military who are trained for this kind of thing, the best way to get energy for skipping sleep is not to go for caffiene or sugar, but just make sure you get lots of normal healthy food. That'll be more long-lasting than the temporary high from stimulants, and won't come with the annoying side effects like tremors etc.

I've tried it at college... it works fairly well.

If that's the case, why does the air force issue go-pills (amphetamines) to its pilots for long missions?

Yes, I'm a night animal. Be it at home or partying, I love the night. I always feel more creative, witty, and all my thoughts meld into a big mush of creative energy. First thing in the morning my IQ must be 20 below my average. Come 10 pm and I really start to light up, I feel like my mind illuminates and it feels like it has been thoroughly oiled working in any direction with anything.

I have various interests that I cannot draw myself away from between 10pm-3am. This is the time I acquire much knowledge by surfing the net in a choatic fashion.

Occasionally I like to indulge in some tunes at a club. I find I have to have something to enhance the experience. I don't do anything illegal, there are legal stimulants on the market called New Zealand herbal highs. They're the next big thing, not many people know the secret of them but they are truely brilliant in helping the mind escape reality and exist in some ethereal dreamworld whilst asborbing a sensory delight of sound & music. It feels like I've medidated for a week and I feel refreshed with a totally different perspective on everything.

I'm finding I can do this more and more in daily situations too, not just establishments where people float off into states of their own preferred desire. It's like acquiring an ever increasing state of personal mind control in all contexts.

Like having a DIY tool that can morph itself into a key to whatever lock is thrown upon me.

Being able to perspectively alter ones thought patterns and deliver a totally different aspect on everything is most wonderful for seeing the many viewpoints of every situation that life brings up.

Sometimes I have to work all night. I just keep working and don't slow down. I do drink coffee but I find if I'm not careful with what I eat I get sick to my stomach. Then the next day my adrenaline is so high that I have to take a warm bath to calm down. If I have two overnighters in a row, then the next night I'm a mess, I have an alarm clock set for every 30 minutes, so that if I fall asleep I'll get woken up. I hate overnighters because I feel like I have jet lag for a couple days.

I have pulled many all nighters in my room, either playing on the PC or doing homework, but never with help from pills or coffe, just willpower and good music on. I can highly recommend Smashmouth's Astrolounge album for that matter.

I've been known to stay awake all through the night and not go to sleep until the following night. I just had a problem sleeping I always had. I'm taking Trazadone at night to help me fall asleep it really helps.

Done it, but feel knackered and unwell afterwards. So I tend to go to bed at about 2-3am these days.

I have stayed up all night twice in the last two weeks. It's not because I'm a party animal either. Far from it.

Don't forget that low melatonin levels can sometimes be a manifestation of autism.

As a teenager I had a friend, there's no doubt he was a real friend but there's just one thing. He was constantly trying to persuade me to pull all-nighters.

The way we understood the term 'all-nighter' in our case was a night spent hanging around the streets overnight, all through the night, drinking.

He said it was his hopes and dreams that I would do an all-nighter. I never did it, but certainly tried once to sneak out of the house overnight, but couldn't.

I have only pulled an all-nighter for partying, never for school. I just did Friday night with friends at a party. It was fun, but I felt like sh*t on Saturday.
