Actually, I have to agree with some of the previous posters; it's not funny, not even mildly. Where there was ample opportunity for satire, it seems the editors have placed a bunch of malicious nonsense instead.
Ironically, I didn't want to offend the ED fans, so I tried to say something positive about the site. Really it's just an excuse for bald-faced lying and bigotry.
You have to consider the source: it's a piece of crap on a piece of crap web site.
It is not funny, they threw away many chnaces to make a real joke and just put in nasty muck.
If that is the best at making a joke about AS then I suggest that they find another topic to make jokes about.
for starters
Joke "How do you know if your secretary is a neurobigot ? Check the computer screen for tipex marks"

Diagnosed under the DSM5 rules with autism spectrum disorder, under DSM4 psychologist said would have been AS (299.80) but I suspect that I am somewhere between 299.80 and 299.00 (Autism) under DSM4.
*sigh* Yes, I've come to terms with the fact that my disorder seems to be one of internet trolls' favorite topics.

If you're actually capable of reading between the lines and putting things into a wider perspective, you notice that the entire purpouse of ED is to present anything related to internet drama in the most offensive and blatant way possible. Find human weakness, berate human weakness by stripping it naked and skewering it on a stake in the middle of the town square, lather, rinse, repeat. Actually, the article pushes so many buttons so accurately that I'd suspect some of the authors had AS themselves. It may not be humor, but it is grim satire. People who doesn't have a certain form of internalized aggression may not be capable of seeing things that way however.
And no, I'm not an ED/4chan troll. Trolling doesn't amuse me, not in this unsophisticated shape at least, and certainly not when it's aimed at people who might not be able to defend themselves.
I was thinking that myself. They had a bit too many facts about AS, and trolls don't generally have any idea about the people they're trolling. So either they are very dedicated trolls that have done their homework, or as you said are fellow aspies with too much free time.
I can deal with most of it- I don't like it as misinformation is the biggest roadblock we have faced in our everyday life, but I can deal with it- to a point.
The fact that they, regardless of intended tone, offer a "treatment" outline (suicide) is beyond vicious. I hope when my son is older he will "know better" but how many desperate kids, teenagers, adults, and parents who are at the end of their proverbial rope might not read the disclaimer. As the parent of an extremely literal person who cannot identify the nuances of satire and sarcasm, I know that this sort of misinformation, even as a joke, could be deadly. I don't think I'm alone in my concern about it. The rest of the stuff is just crap, but the "treatment" portion is not what any kid should be confronted with.

I agree. These people are too well-informed to be trolls. Anyway, it's a website for nasty satire. EVERY single text there might be considered extremely offensive, not only the articles about Asperger's and autism. The texts are supposed to be funny, not insulting. Actually, I was able to laugh.
The "misinformation" part - there IS a disclaimer.
I don't enjoy ED at all. An undiagnosed AS type, who was a sexually frustrated loser and infamous (rather bad) internet troll once tried to enter me into ED based on information about my own internet activites he had archived and distorted as exaggerated propaganda, making me look like the wackiest person ever completely out of touch with reality. It angers me even more that he did this because he himself is a pathetic loser who used to stalk young girls, he has low self esteem and is frustrated with being rejected by the girls he finds attractive so instead he hangs around 24/7 in different nerd communities full of extreme views, places where people believe russian ultranationalists will conquer Europe and turn it into a land ruled by goths, emos, paedophiles and zoophiles. He's so weird and disgusting that just thinking about him makes me feel sick, he's quite ugly too. He used to have an obsession with borderlinish, self harming emo type girls because he thought he could take advantage of them for easy sex. I suspect he's even a virgin still, some of his frustration must come from that.
I felt it was a total violation of my privacy when that guy posted lies about me and even published my real name and the names of my family members on a forum. He suggested I was ED material based on the fact I have AS and am known for my extreme personality but he spiced it up as if it was a TV-show he was trying to sell, he wanted me to look like a sort of CWC figure. This particular stalker's "type" is probably common among ED editors so I don't really find it humorous at all.
It is only misinformation if you also think "Animal Farm" misinforms people about the oration and political organization abilities of pigs. It's fictionalized satire.

I hope if your son does not know to not shoot bullets into his or anyone else's brain, that your son is under constant supervision, or at least does not have access to fire-arms.
As a person with a modicum of good sense, I would hope that anyone who would shoot themselves in the head because a website suggests they should, would not be let unsupervised on the internet, near firearms, or....well I would not recommend leaving such a person unsupervised at all actually.
Anyone who would act on the "advice" in this very silly and arguably lame piece of satire, simply should not be left unsupervised, let alone have access to firearms.
So true... I doubt even an extremely gullible person with AS would take that "advice" literally, and if (it's only unlikely, not impossible, that's true...), he or she shouldn't be let anywhere near a computer with internet access anyway.
This stuff is gold. There are people who group themselves in with Einstein the so-called aspie because they have no friends It helps them feel special.
I'm diagnosed with asperger's myself, don't brage about being special, have friends and can take a joke. I mean come on, as if this is actually offensive if you're a normal, decently intelligent person diagnosed AS.
Some people aren't aware of the impact of misinformation and "fictionalized satire". Coming to such a site if googling for information, unaware of the intent or scope of the e.d. site, one (maybe not you, me, or the next guy, but someone) might take the information as fact. Especially with disclaimer and "about" links at the very bottom. I notice these details, but the fact is that not everyone does. My point is that an extremely literal, fact-based person might see the encyclopedia dramatic entry for Asperger's and not know it is satire. My guess is that the same person would also interpret "Animal Farm" as you suggested.
This has nothing to do with "stupidity" -perceived or otherwise, of an individual or a group of people. Someone not identifying "fictionalized satire" does not make them stupid. But not being able to identify it does put some people in danger/at risk in the same way that not identifying or processing body language or nuances in speech.
"Animal Farm" is a perfect example-if someone is unaware that it is an allegory when they read it, then it is just a book about talking farm animals. If the historical or political context, or the allegorical nature, are not given (by a teacher, by reading reviews or analysis of the book prior to reading it, etc) there is no way to know that it is satire, and anything but literal. That is also my concern about the "treatment" on encyclopedia dramatica.
Not every child grows up in a home that is supporting and loving and everyone happy and accepting of differences. I highly doubt that someone would print off the encyclopedia dramatica "treatment" how-to and use it as a checklist. The suggestion though is that suicide/death is the only treatment or cure may be the final nail in the coffin for someone who cannot manage the impact Asperger's has on their lives-whether it is their own or someone else's (sibling, child, etc). I'm not necessarily talking about a emotionally stable, rational person when I theorize about someone who might misuse the information (false or not). I'm also not saying that Aspergers or Autism only have a negative impact- but everyone's experience is different and not everyone embraces differences in themselves or in others. Planting the seed that making Asperger's go away is a few simple, horrible, and irreversible steps, is the last thing anyone needs.
How many children will be killed by classmates, siblings, their own parents, even suicide before people realize that words, regardless of intent (fictional satire, for example), do hurt and kill? And that question is not specifically about AS or content on the internet- it applies to all people.
You asked "Just how stupid do you think people like us are?". You are the only one, in this conversation, making any assumption regarding the stupidity of a person or a group of people.
Also, my son is closely supervised. I remember when I was learning to drive someone told me that the biggest danger on the road is other people (well, other people and if in Vermont- a moose can be a sizable hazard)- I am finding that his warning applies just as accurately to raising kids, which is why the encyclopedia dramatic thing does worry me this much.
