I have been awake for 4 hours already and my roommates who went to sleep at the same time still arent awake yet, and I had 7 hours, which is normal for me, in fact some nights I am lucky to get 6 hours, and I still feel awake after it. 8 is good, and it is impossible for me to sleep longer without being sedated.

So why do they sleep so long? I know it is the weekend, but it just seems like laziness to me.

EDIT: and they both have a 2 hour nap in the middle of the day.

I don't think that's an NT thing, I'm aspie and I sleep for years, LOL. My sleeping time is increasing as well, I need over 12 hours sleep else I get pissed off.

It takes me forever to get to sleep(4 AM-ish) but in the weekends I sleep in the morning until 1 PM or something. So, I don't know, I just can't get to sleep because I keep thinking about other things or start talking to myself.

Do yourself a favour and never let your sleep get to the point my sister's is at. She sleeps roughly 16 hours a day, spread out throughout the day, and only gets up when she needs to work. She is like a hibernating bear, wake her up and she will attack you in her sleep. She is supposed to be NT, and though she is definitly not on the spectrum, I strpngly suspect she is deficient in something.

4am to 1pm isn't oversleeping, and oversleeping is not good for you either, it can cause increased drowsiness during the day (believe it or not).

I don't know why 'NT's need so much sleep.

But I need a lot of sleep often. That's the one thing that's very un-ADHD-ish about me. While I rarely get tired, I sleep long when I go to sleep. Sensory over-stimulation, stress from socialising, stress from trying to appear normal and not do what I would do normally (not doing stims, not saying stupid things, thinking everything through, not meltdown-ing and being overloaded)... and I enjoy how sleeping in my bed feels like. I have such snugly sets of bed linen!

But yeah, my sleeping hours range from 4 to 12.

I definitely prefer the 12 hours, but sometimes I'm still so energised and not stressed and tired from my day that I'm too hyper too lay down and sleep and will feel fine with just a couple of hours of sleep. That's probably the hyperactivity striking back.

8-9/10 hours is what I need usually.

Yeah, I know a guy who got grounded for a week and all he did was sleep and the more he slept the more he got tired and it took him a while to regain his normal sleeping habits.

Is she suffering from hypersomia?

I need at least 8.5 hours of sleep to be comfortable the next morning, and I'm an aspie.
Of course, as an engineering student, getting that much sleep is a rare occurrence.

I need at least 10 hours of sleep or else I get very frequent meltdowns. That is more than most NT's need. Am always tired due to sensory overstimulation, stress etc.

The question should be "Why do people need so much sleep?"

I get tired of the generalizations we make about people assuming it's an NT thing just because we see none aspies do it.

I sleep till noon because I have troubles going to sleep and staying asleep and I like to stay up late till 2 or 3 in the morning.

'Deficient in something' - you're right. Something is wrong if she sleeps that much. She should see a doctor, who will probably test to see if she is anaemic or depressed.

I need 8 hours at regular times. I'm particularly bad at staying up much later than my usual bedtime of 10pm (esp. on week nights). If I am home alone then I will stay up later if I am busy doing something and it doesnt bother me, but if I am kept from going to bed by having to be with other people I will get extremely stressed. I go past a tiredness point and after that I become unable to enjoy myself at all, I just want to go to sleep. Most people I know (NTs) are happy to stay up late quite often and I just can't do it unless I am alone. On the other hand I love getting up early before anyone else, which means my overall body clock is completely skewed compared to most other people. Generally (unless medicated or very depressed) I find it very hard to stay in bed once it is light.

ditto.

I rarely get the 10 hours straight though, so usually I sleep 6-7 and then take a 3-4 hour nap after work. so I have a strange sleep cycle where I have two "nights" and two "days" within each given 24 hours.

That was what happened to me when I regularly slept too long; instead of making me more refreshed, I only became more sleepy.

With my sleep patterns, right now I go to bed at around 9-10, and I wake up at about 8.
But I will often wake up for a couple of hours in the middle of the night, and then go back to sleep. If I don't do that, I wake up at 5 or 6 am.
