Does this make me a shallow person? I don't like that attitude.

Minerology FTW

my fave minerals are adventurine and onyx especially since onyx is such a deep dark black I find it so trancing

Yay :D

I especially like garnet (of which I have a lot, and some of the rare varieties like the one with color-change too).
I have a personal connection to garnet because I'm very interested in metamorphous rocks.
And jewellery with garnet in it is easy to get and usually not even particularly expensive as long as you're only looking for the almandine or pyrope varieties. (Otherwise, of course, it can be expensive. I still wasn't able to afford a mandarin-garnet of acceptable quality.)

I wear a wrist-watch too, and I'm most comfortable with a band made of metal. I like the weight on my wrist. It makes my hand more steady.

The only jewelry I wear is my medical alert necklace, and I wear that because it is against the law for me to drive without it and it diffuses potentially dangerous contact with police. I also wear a shoe tag with the same information on it. My pendant was custom engraved.

I could never wear jewellery when I was younger, it always felt like it shouldn't be there so I would take it off,

These days I have become accustomed to always wearing my pearl stud earrings or similar and matching bracelet, only taking those off for bathing; they are supplemented with pearl or other necklets if I am going out. I now have the other end of feeling like a part of me is missing if I am not wearing the earrings and bracelet.

I like your tag, there FTR, but I can't find it on the website. All I find there (Autism Awareness) is "Autistic Child" and "Special Needs Child" where did you get the one that doesn't refer to the age of the wearer?

I don't find it stupid nor do I feel stupid when wearing jewelry.
And I don't get why people find it shallow, it's just another way of expressing yourself, what's wrong with that?

I do feel very uncomfortable though. Bracelets, necklaces etc. make me very annoyed 'cause I can constantly feel the string/chain against my skin and it gives me a very 'trapped' feeling... like I have to rip it off instantly to get some relief.

Though when I was younger I didn't have such a problem. I'd wear one silver bracelet, it was a open one, where the ends were bent towards each other and flattened out (which I also used as a weapon to cut any bullies if they came near me) and a necklace with my name in Arabic, which was one of my favourite things.

I don't feel stupid, because I don't wear a lot and what I do wear isn't showy. No diamonds or gold, nothing catching or clanking.

I have a black and silver watch all the time. I have silver skull earstuds and silver hoops that I'm so used to they might as well not be there. Other than that I don't wear anything. If I need more I add my ankh and/or a wrist cuff.

I have a few but i almost never wear em, i should get my watch repaired though, the little spring that attaches the bracelet to the watch itself broke down. =(

I do like tiger's eye as a gemstone. :O emerald's not too bad either. I have pretty standard glasses, so no problem there either ^^; .

I wear tons of jewelry. But not diamondy jewelry or anything at all like that. Most is some sort of body jewelry(get ready for the big list!). On each ear i have four piercings in the upper cartilage, 14 gauge, and lately i've been wearing black circular barbells with spikes on the ends in them all. Also have a conch(the bowl-shaped part in the middle of the ear) piercing in each ear, 14g, with plain labret studs in each. Then on the lobes i have three each... Bottom one is stretched to 5/8", next one up is 2g, next is 6g, same for both ears. I wear little eyelet tunnels in the 2g and 6g holes, and switch the 5/8" holes' jewelry pretty often. I have two 14g piercings in my tongue(one to the left, one to the right. "venoms," that is), with regular tongue studs, take them out for work. Then i have two 14g holes in my eyebrow that i usually wear curved barbells in, and clear retainers in at work. Then i have a 10g septum piercing that i wear a curved barbell in(and flip it up inside my nose when i need to hide it for work!). Yeah, i have sort of a thing for piercings.

Other than body jewelry.... I usually wear a watch.. and sometimes i wear rings. I have one ring with skulls on it and one with spiders on it that i wear a lot lately. Now and then i'll wear a necklace if i feel like it... Either just a chain, or a one that's just a cord with a skull or ankh pendant at the end. yeah. that's about it. No fancy girl jewelry or rich people jewelry.. just plain ol' metal body jewelry and costume jewelry.

It doesn't make me feel stupid, although the only jewelerry I wear are my earings. Other jewelerry irritates me, especially bracelets as they're always rubbing on my skin and causing me to scratch.

The only things I wear are a 12ga partial hoop with rounded ends in my left ear, and a set of military spec dog tags.

Hehehe, after just having bought 3 pair of earrings on eBay only a few moments ago, I have to say that, yes, I wear jewelry. Although I tend to keep it sparse and simple. I enjoy earrings, even the dangly ones, and I also like rings (although currently I only have one; earrings are easier and cheaper to buy). I wouldn't mind bracelets provided they hug the wrist a bit more; I don't especially like loose bracelets, although I suppose if I wore them enough I'd eventually learn to ignore the feeling. I used to wear watches but once I hit my 20s discovered that my skin reacts badly to leathers and types of metals and I'd probably have to purchase a particular kind of metal watch (e.g., gold  ) in order to not break out.

I wear more jewelry nowadays. I like how it becomes part of one's overall attire. And let's face it, clothing isn't just functional, it's "jewelry" as well-- even for those individuals who don't consider themselves "fashion conscious", they're still making statements about their person based upon their clothing choice be it "I'm a supermodel" or "I love The Simpsons".

I have no qualms or guilt about being "shallow" in wearing something which I enjoy wearing and makes me feel good to wear. I don't consider it shallow at all.

I'll wear a necklace every now and then to dress up an outfit. Nothing special, just a junk jewellery one with an oversized pendant of some sort.
I can't be bothered with rings and earrings as I hate the hassle of taking them off and putting them on everyday. Not that I have my ears pierced (I got them done, was neglectful with aftercare and let the holes grow closed)

You hardly will find "pure" silver or gold: Silver is mostly sterling alloy (925/1000) and gold too often 8 crt. (333/1000). Both metals are quite soft, so they need for practical reasons on other metal to harden those. For Silver you may try Britannia silver (958.4/1000) or the common French Alloy of 950/1000. For gold try to go to 22 crt. or more.

Otherwise: Try platinum, which is very hard and therefore made in alloys above 950/1000, sometime even 999/1000. It also looks more decent.

---

An alternative is Titan or some steel alloys made for medical usage, but also used for jewellery (and much cheaper than platinum).

^^ exactly! I think there is confusion about the wearing of jewelry and the person wearing it - jewelry in its self isn't a stupid thing, its just a thing. Jewelry has been around almost as long as people have been able to get a hole in a shell and thread some sort of rope through it. Jewelry can be worn for religious significance, cultural significance, personal significance, etc., and yes, vanity and social/financial status as well, but it is a thing and I definitely agree that it is a form of expression :D .

I like jewelry :D . I wear it because I like it. Thankfully I don't have too many problems with it irritating my skin (although earrings that haven't been properly cleaned will make my ears go red). I just bought an Egyptian yoke-inspired coin necklace to wear for dancing. I have made my own jewelry too - You won't catch me buying expensive boutique items if I think I can make a reasonable facsimile for myself (last year I admired a chain necklace that had some bead work added to it. Upon inspection, realized the price tag said $300! I went to the craft store, bought findings and tools and made a one of a kind for about $20, and that included the earrings and bracelet I made to match) . Really expensive jewelry really makes me nervous to wear - I don't want to lose, break, or have it stolen from me. So I stay with the less expensive sparklies. :D
