Thanks for the information, Greentea. I know it was a bit off topic here, but maybe I should put most of my post over in the other thread instead. :)

anne, sorry for not explaining myself. I was very busy and just shot the link. I meant that, if you wished, you could have a look at that thread and maybe help us with your opinions and knowledge, of which you have so much. I was never one to mind off-topic on threads, in fact I've been shushed for going off-topic on the very threads that I started...!

That's okay, Greentea. :D It was rather like when I saw the ToM thread you linked to, I felt that my post might fit in better there. (It seemed not to be a bad idea to move it btw.) :D

To go offtopic, yeah that's easy... just like in real life conversations. It differs a lot in forums how much OT stuff moderators will tolerate. I'm a moderator myself another place and think OT stuff is okay, but at seldom times I feel that both topics are so good material for a discussion that they deserve to have a thread for each one, and I may cut the thread in two. :)

Well, I know one can (=some do, some don't) get ill because of being an autistic person in a certain place and time that's not made for an autistic person.

I've only recently discovered the name for why I am the way I am.

One thing I am pretty sure about is that I am not Ill, or sick, affected with "something", i dont consider it a disorder, or a syndrome, i dont beleive its a disease to be treated or cured. at the moment im troubled by even referring to it as "having" aspergers. I dont "have" anything. I am aspergers. Its just how I, and many people are. Nothing wrong, nothing not normal, just different.

hope others see it this way too!

I guess that explains the "cure mentality", and why so much effort seems to be spent in stopping this "epidemic"....(yes, I have seen the word "epidemic" used to describe autism).

Next they'll be marketing a pill for it....

(Are you ill and suffering from Asperger's Syndrome? Well, suffer no longer! Now there's Neurotypicol, for instant relief! It's new!....in pill, capsule, or suppository form). :)

Without the AS there would be nothing to react to.

Oh, I understand now.

I suffer from Jewishness, then. And my friend Sam suffers from blackness, and my neighbor Sheila suffers from homosexuality, because these things make ignorant people hurt us and outcast us lots of times.

Anything that is genuinely you, part of the wonderful person you are, if it makes ignorants react negatively to you as a person, then you have to say that you suffer from your wonderful you.

That's why Hitler set out to exterminate us - to end our suffering.

That's not even remotely comparable to this. To be honest, after a Godwin I believe the poster tends to lose much of their credibility.

It's wrong to say they're ignorant. Humans are social creatures, but we suffer from something that negatively affects our social skills. It's no more the NT's fault than it is our fault.

What does this mean?

All humans are not social by nature. I’m as non-sociable as they come. That is not due to AS, it’s due the fact that I’m an innately introvert hikikomori. Like any Aspie I’m socially inept, unlike extrovert Aspies who actually feel like socialising, I’m not too bothered by it.
My mother could hardly be more NT, yet while she’s more extrovert than me and not at all socially inept, she chooses to live quite socially reclusive, hardly ever going visiting people or invite someone over. Same goes for my father. This means that you don’t have to be neurologically different to be disinterested in socialising. Some of us are that different by nature.

Of course it’s ignorance. Not everyone feels or acts the same way. Some are solitary, some have other culinary traditions, religious beliefs, sexual preferences, hobbies, looks, you name it, someone does it or has it. When someone reacts negatively to someone else’s core being, they only show their own ignorance and prejudice.

In science fiction we often see aliens being amazed by the diversity of humans. If we’re so proud of this part of our society and species, why then is it so difficult and unacceptable to be different?

I think this is a stupid wording. I only use "illness" in connection with Asperger's in the context of psychiatric hospital, and only sometimes. As in, "we're all ill here", because the othe rpeople do consider themselves ill (with schizophrenia, bipolar, etc., ie. mental illness) and otherwise you're generally considered either fine or with "a behavior disorder".

Misuse of Godwin's Law. The law is invoked when comparing someone to Hitler, not the mere mention of his name, and it was apropos to mention Hitler as Greentea is Jewish.

Godwin's Law originally said that when someone was compared with Hitler the posting to said threads tended to stop - it was measuring what people had a tendency to do when Hitler's name was dropped. This has no effect in the real world as I have purposely continued threads on other chatrooms when Godwin's Law was invoked, and people there say:"but wait! this thread should die". That is highly illogical; a thread dies when it is supposed to, not according to some unproved law based on an observation.

Okay, that was funny! Although there are good neurotypicals out there, that was catchy about being "ill".
