I'm hypermobile. As far as I'm aware, there is no such thing as 'double jointed' - it's just an informal and incorrect term for hypermobile.
Really? Oh phew. XD;; I never knew what it was, and the term always creeped me out when people told me they were double-jointed.

Anyway, my thumb only does that when I push on it.

My son has been diagnosed with "Ligamentious Laxity" or "Laxed Ligaments" which basically means he is very floppy and hypermobile. He also has high functioning autism. I too have laxed ligamentious and aspergers. Apparently it's all to do with genetics. Yes many many children who have ligamentious laxity are also on the autistic spectrum. Other tell-tale signs (but not alway) of laxed ligaments are sticking out ears, also a condition whereby the whites of the eyes appear blue-tinged (blue sclera), recurrent ear infections. It's down to laxed ligaments that my son has a face much younger than his years and more baby-like creases around his eyes than is normal.

The first sign of my son having ligamentious laxity (other than late walking) was the fact that he aways sits in the W position, ie when he sits on the floor his legs are to the side and his feet behind him making a W shape. I too sit that way a lot. Anyone else sit in the W position on the floor?

I have hypermobile joints, particularly in my wrists, knees, and shoulders.

I can hyperextend my arms at the elbows and my legs at the knees. Which comes in handy when I want to scare people. 8)

I can:
Put a foot behind my head
Put both feet behind my head
Put a foot behind my head while standing (support helps)
Pull my arm almost flat across my shoulders behind my head
Get in and out of the lotus position at will without needed to coerce my legs using my hands.
Suspend myself between two tables, get into the lotus position, then shift onto the table.
Do this weird series of movements involving the arms and head that I can't explain (found out about that one in August)
Maybe some more.

Plenty of party tricks.

Yep. I can bend the first segment of my thumb backwards so it's lying horizontal/90 degrees from the rest of my thumb

My mum can do that, it looks weird.

I can do that exact same thing in the photo, same exact thumb too. Can't do it with my right thumb at all.

I used to love doing the lotus position all the time, it's especially fun to try to walk on your knees while you do it.

But I screwed up my knee really bad and now there's probably no way I can do it without severe discomfort/pain =/
