I wear them b/c I have to. The light bothers like the other postee. I wish just wearing shades would protect me for others but...it doesn't. I don't look. It is easier that way. I have to have a dorky-looking strap on mine that keeps me from losing mine, though, b/c I can't keep up with anything. Oh well... Such is life. Don't worry about everyone out there they can't kill you by looking or even staring at you!

I don't like wearing sunglasses, unless I'm sitting by the pool or something. They just feel uncomfortble, I guess. And my AS is mild enough to let me tolerate eye contact pretty well.

If we are going to start on the conversation of how sunglasses are used as a social tool to handle peoples, then I don't recommend using it. Well so long as you dont make it more then 1 day in the week.

I absolutley MUST wear sunglass when I drive. I have sensitive eyes and I wear contacts. The sun can be very blinding in this part of the US and for some reason, it seems like I am constantly driving with the sun in my face. I take them off when I go indoors...I just don't look at anyone in the face, but I feel silly with shades on when I'm inside.

i HAVE to wear them because i am a lifeguard, and i have light sencetive eyes, so i have to get polorized lenses.
costs me a few more bucks extra, but it makes soooo much of a diffrence when working of biking or walking in the sun.
it also helps when i see a cute girl, they cant tell that i am looking. lol

i like sunglasses for a few reasons
1. avoid eye contact without anyone saying anything
2. avoiding conversations you do not want to be involved in
3. blocks sun

so i do use them to avoid people. Not always though

i was going to post the same! :)

Negative:
1. Its hard to find sunglasses that suit me
2. When i finally find the ones that look good on me, I have to pay a fortune

Like Sundy, I MUST use sunglasses to drive because I am photosensitive. (The rest of the time, my regular glasses can generally compensate--the lenses have been treated with silver chloride and darken in sunlight, but this doesn't work in the car.) I don't usually use them as a tool to 'block people out,' though--how does that work? I can see them exactly the same with my sunglasses or without them and I feel the same, too, since I'm always wearing glasses (unless I want to be blind). Eye contact is easily solved by looking at people's mouth when talking (necessary, since I don't always have good listening comprehension), and I don't see how sunglasses prevent those annoying people from coming up and talking to you.

Besides, my sunglasses are very expensive, because I need prescription sunglasses, and I really don't want to run the risk of losing them.

I have sunglass anxiety. I allways feel they don't look nice on me, or they look too big/small, are the 'wrong' brand etc etc etc. I once bought some expensive raybans because my sister who happened to be shopping with me told me I looked hot, but they drew too much attention and I rarely used them. :?
Now I have to wear proper glasses so I got the photosensitive kind that goes darker as the sun goes brighter. Thats great. but I'm develloping a new anxiety for those... Just got new ones, and even after two weeks of getting used to them I still don't like em... I allways decide too quickly on buying stuff because I hate shopping and just want to get out of there.
In one shopping-spree week (that I had to do because I really needed the stuff) I managed to: buy expensive glasses I dont like, buy a too-small motorbike helmet, buy expensive boots of the wrong type, buy running-shoes that don't fit nicely, buy a shirt thats too small, buy another shirt thats too big, buy shirt of a colour I don't like. ARGGHH! Oooops I wondered OT I guess.... :D

I've been thinking allot lately about getting sunglasses. Yet everytime I see them at the store I cannot determin which ones to get. It's sort of frustrating.

Most famous people wear sunglasses as a barrier against the constant attention, some like Bono from U2 will even admit as much.

I don't where sunglasses as i have glasses normally and i con't afford prescription sunglasses. I wear hats, every time i leave the house and especially if its sunny or bright. And i do use them to avoid people, i pull the brim down low and its like I'm in a world of my own. this works really well, proably better than sunglasses would, and makes me feel safe.

Sunglasses are great for hiding behind and avoiding eye contact. (And necessary for the sun too.) I just recently figured out how to wear them on top of my head when I'm indoors without getting my hair tangled in the nose pieces, so now I'm wearing them more than I used to.
