Who knows you have autism??

I never tell anyone that i have autism unless i have to like say a teacher.
but i've never told the few friends i actually have I know for some it's the first thing a tell people

I'm like you, I've never told any of my friends.
My mom knows and a family friend knows, and so do some people like doctors of course, but that's it.

Family, relatives, husband, mom in law, doctors, some of my old school mates (unless they forgot), and ex's. I think all my teachers knew too.

My hubby, and my old cool boss. And my best mate.

None of my family other than hubby knows. Mum told me I was a hypochondriac when I started talking about it... ><

Only family and some high school teachers and my elementary teachers and aids in elementary.My college instructors dont know, nor does the college in general.

Anyone that does not need to know I do not tell

Several of my co-workers...including some bosses. Some former friends, my girlfriend, her parents, my room-mate, a few friends, my Dad, a couple doctors, potentially some people on Facebook, and for now I believe that's it.

And no, I'm not worried that my bosses know.....I'm their top guy. When you're the best at what you do, they don't let things like that concern them.

Just to give you an idea of how highly they praise me....I literally got a raise at work after only 3 weeks. They said I was just that good.

So no...they don't care about my Autism.

People I know, and anyone who lives around here who sees me out and about, and wonders why I don't look/talk/greet them (it's a good idea for people to know why I'm socially aloof, lest they think bad things of me. I know if something went down, the police would look at that strange man who keeps to himself; I don't want to deal with that. My mother told them all).

If they know I have autism, they can then see that I'm really as gentle as a butterfly and I wouldn't harm a soul, rather than the big scary looking fella who doesn't talk to people.

I'm not diagnosed but I talked to my mother who said she thought I was very high functioning and my sister and brother who agreed that I was on the spectrum. They better than anyone know what my struggles have been.

Everybody knows, because autism is my special interest or one of them, and of course I'm going to talk about it, since it is one of my special interests. I don't like to keep secrets from anybody about anything, anymore. I prefer to tell people like it is.

just about every one knows. i try 2 keep it a secret tho cause most peple who know treat me like a freaking 5 year old. idiots.

My AS son joined the Boy Scouts recently and I'm wondering if I should/ have to tell them.

Quite a few people. I'm open about it. My best friend knows about it. So do my bosses at work. I also told a girl I thought liked me. She felt terrible about sending the wrong signals, so I explained that I can't tell the difference between a girl liking me as a friend and a girl liking me as more than friends because I have Asperger's. Yesterday I met Sarah Palin at a book signing I told her that I have autism.

my bosses know it and the key people i work with know it.
they have to know it in order to confidently ignore what they otherwise may be very offended about with respect to my behavior.

my girlfriend knows it because she had to be told. so do her parents.
my girlfriend is also autistic, and she is more affected than me. she is affected to the point of retardation, but she is less affected by autism than me when it comes to wanting love.
my heart is as cold as the "surface" of neptune, and i only want company --- and not "love".
romantic love is always polluted by desire and other corrupting influences anyway.

so if i meet anyone who likes me in a way i think i may not be able to service, then i will try to excuse myself by revealing my AS so they may not be as upset as they would be if i was a normal person.

nobody in the mainstream of my daily discourse knows anything about me, and they all have whatever ideas they have about me, but they go home with those ideas, and i go home without them.

i have not furthered this discussion i suspect but there one goes.

My parents and close family such as brothers, sisters and perhaps a few aunts and uncles know about it. The only other persons I've told are my best friend and her now ex-boyfriend whom I haven't spoken to since they broke up. I seriously hope he's not putting up any slander about me or something.

Also, my best friend talked about it with one of her other best friends (ha, that sounds weird) whom I consider the right kind of person. They had a discussion about asperger apparently and then I was mentioned in the conversation. I was told it was only positive but still, I really REALLY do NOT like it when people talk about that kind of stuff and then just blurt out that I have it too. I'm still not 100% okay with being diagnosed with asperger, as asperger is more of a term made up by some random doctor dude who thought it was nessecary to report a file about specific personal properties and then simply classify it as a mental handicap.

As such I'm not exactly planning to tell anyone else, as where I live alot of people tend to unjustfully hate people with certain racial heritages, religious beliefs and mental/physical disorders. It's not like I live in Nazi-ville or something (can I say that on these forums?) but alot of them are simply ignorant and gotta hate someone else to love themselves.

since I am considered a high Functioning person with autism I can hide it really well i Blend in so no one ever questions but on the flip side since I look normal at school mostly at college they think I don't need help so they think i'm a slacker or something
