Keep your hands off UK aspies!

Extradition is a one way street and abuse is a one way street.

Just because theirs is the only flat above yours does not mean they are lying about leaking water into your flat. It is just as likely that there is a broken water pipe behind their walls or yours that they have no way of knowing about. Before you accuse people of lying, stop to consider all the possibilities. And talk to your landlord, but without making unwarranted accusations against your upstairs neighbors. Just say there is water leaking into your flat and say where.

I've found that many peoples use lies to a situation - eg my neighbour upstairs often leaks water into my flat. When I challenge them they always say "its NOT MY WATER, it must be coming from somewhere else, you have problems with it go see the landlord."

That I know is a lie, I know very well the water comes from their flat, there's only their flat above mine! But when I try to challenge it they come up with even more clever turns of lies, and in the end I feel like I am the one lying and that it is a waste of time trying to defend my position.

In my previous accomodation the neighbour was always making accusations about me, the most amazing things, yet when I complained to the management of the flats, they always believed the bullying neighbour. The management made many warnings to evict me, yet in my view the bullying neighbour should have had the warnings not me. But no matter how hard I tried to give evidence and be concise with my side of the story, they were always indisposed to believe the bullying neighbour.

I absolutely know they are lying and know everything they have said, but it seems impossible to challenge them, and I can only conclude that people are extremely clever at using language to turn against aspies and make aspies look like the liars. I am sure many others on this forum have encountered the same seemingly impossible obstacles when it comes to standing up for themselves or defending their rights.

Is there any reason you haven't approached your landlord about this yet?

It does not matter whether he is interested or not. I am sure there is a contract regarding these things you are paying this guy...

All possibilities??? I fixed a water leak for the previous neighbour and I know that it is where the problem comes from. If you think I dont know the layouts of the flats and their wiring and water pipes, then you must think I am stupid, thanks!! !

I think when you said 'fixed, you meant 'that aspie liar' is sorted out now!! !

I would try and move out or maybe take pictures of the leak and show them to the landlord.

Actually, I didn't think you knew the layouts of all the flats including wiring and water pipes. It isn't stupid not to know that. It's what is to be expected from anybody who hasn't cut holes into the walls to actually follow the pipes and wires. I mean, how exactly do you know the layout of the pipes and wires??? Have you removed wallboard? You can't just infer it from where the pipes are on the outside. I'm a homeowner. I've removed walls. So I know that how things seem on one side of the wall can be very different from how they actually are on the other side of the wall. I've also seen how leaks can seem to come from one place but once you tear out the wall, the leak is noweher near where you thought it was but the water travels down the outside of the pipe and emerges in a way that was not predicted from looking at the water stain on the wallboard.

It's probably nothing to do with the fact that you're an Aspie. NTs (no, sorry - people) do it to each other too - but only the really nasty ones. Don't hold it against them all - there's just a few people out there who will do these things.

You try for 9 years to hold the contract against the landlord. It doesn't work!! He just wont do anything and the council have failed to do anything, they sent him many letters threatening him with legal action, but when it came to the real crunch, the council went quiet - no doubt it was too much trouble to bother to actually take the landlord to court!!

I was hoping that some memebers would help me to think of a different way to deal with this, but its just become a typical NT melee.
There really are few alternative ways to deal with this , and all of them involve converting to a new religion and hoping its god can come down to earth and help you with that personally.

I am sorry, but in this case, you'll have to be assertive or else they will win...

It's probably from a leak under the shower/tub or sink or toilet. The only way they could leak water into your apt themselves is from an overflowing sink, toilet, washer, tub, etc. Or from just pouring a lot of water on the floor. Saying they aren't doing it means they aren't having things overflow and telling you to talk to the landlord is the right response because it's some plumbing problem that he will have to have someone come fix.

It's not a lie to say that you're not doing something when your not. It might be coming from above you, but that doesn't mean they are doing it. There are many many places for hidden leaks. You need a plumber for that.
