i've always had a music interest/obsession.

One of my favorite toys was a broken radio. Until I got it taken away. My parents sat me in front of the TV with the TV radio stations and I'd listen to those when I was a baby.

When I was a child I loved any kind of Disney movie with songs/sing-alongs. After that, say 3rd grade -ish is when I started getting huge obsessions over bands. Well, that's only happened for 3 bands and they lasted for awhile and once one ended got immediately picked up by another band.

Now I have a music-downloading obsession. I love downloading music, tagging it correctly and organizing it on my computer and iPod. :3 :3 :3 last.fm/user/bury_u_n_time

To some degree. I think it's natural to do that to some extent.

Music has long been a part of my life. In my pre-teens, I was obsessed with the Monkees. When I entered adolescence, I discovered Louis Armstrong & became totally consumed with early jazz. About that same time (age 12 or 13), I started playing percussion, so my obsession spread from listening to playing.

Not long after I started in the school band, I also joined the local drum & bugle corps - where I learned technical aspects of drumming that simply weren't being taught in school. I joined a rock band at the age of 14 - and my band mates exposed me to the world of glam rock (David Bowie, the New York Dolls, etc.) & what was just beginning to be known as heavy metal (Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, etc.)

By the time I was in high school, music was an inseparable part of my life. When I wasn't playing or listening, I was thinking about music & counting the seconds until I could get back to it. I remember preparing to take a car trip across country with my family & frantically trying to convert my favorite vinyl LPs to cassette tape (this was in the days of the Sony Walkman - a few decades before the advent of the iPod), because I couldn't conceive of being away from my music for two weeks.

Now, my interests lie with female vocalists (Neko Case, Amanda Palmer, Fiona Apple, Imogen Heap, Sarah Slean, Vanessa Carlton, etc.) Many others listed here: http://www.last.fm/user/zeichner

Thanks to the miracle of digital files, I can have my favorite music on three computers & two iPods - so it is easily accessible to me at any time.

I love rock. My taste ranges from classic rock to classic metal and some alternative, with Pink Floyd my top favorite. Other favorites include Led Zeppelin, Queen, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, The Who, etc.

Despite that we are all hardwired to obsess about things, a music obsession is perfectly healthy and a gift to have. I don't know how anyone could consider it weird or strange, even if its an obsession about a certain band, band member, or instrument, or even musical equipment (one of my own obsessions). I don't live without music, I'm currently on break from being a music major in college to teach lessons and move in with my girlfriend. You obsess all you want. Music is awesome. All I would say is try to expand. Learn an instrument, talk to people, join a band. When you have an obsession like that, its an obsession that you can actually do something with.

After spending a few years touring with a band, I went to music school.

My kirtan / mantra / bhajan playlist is now over 800 tracks. So easy to import CDs. Soon I have to convert old cassettes, a rather tedious process. iTunes is amazing, the control one can have over his music. But the greatest thing of all is AirTunes, which streams your playlist over all your speakers in your house at once! The sound is awesome, reverberating in every cell and atom and raising the roof, whole house vibrating. Can hear layers and nuances never before heard, so intensely enjoyable. Not expensive. Can play all speakers at once or group them or do whatever you want. Whole house system rocks out without ripping out any walls for wiring.

iPhone / iPod Touch has a free Apple app that turns it into a Remote so you can control your music from anywhere in the house or yard. Toooooo good!

Sorry for the bump, but I thought this was a very interesting and relevant subject :)

I LOVE and LIVE music. I'm not as into pop history as I was in about 2006, but I still like songs and artists from almost every kind of music.

I particularly love anything from the 60s, 70s or 80s. The sixties had a load of awesome guitar groups, followed by hippie bands. The seventies had early synthpop, glam rock and punk. The eighties had cool songs by trendy people. Another favourite genre of mine is heavy metal.

Current obsessions: The Beatles, Middle of the Road, Chicory Tip, Alvin Stardust, Nightwish, Kinks (for which I can partially blame the 'Rebel for ;)), The Sweet and ELO.

Music is my third most intense interest. I mostly use it in conjunction with my main interest (which I have yet to say because it is my most embarrassing to tell others ). The only band(s) I generally listen to most of their songs are TOOL and A Perfect Circle. Lateralus is my favorite. I like many other songs too. I spend alot of time listening to music mostly in my room with my headphones. With my main interest I spend around three to four straight hours a day listening (sometimes more).
Kris I have listened to music (the same songs) many, many times as well...

If your weird for your interest, than all of us are as well; then again we are all different on this site. So if enough of us are similar than your not weird, but just part of a smaller fraction of people who are similar from the main world of NT's :)

I love Ronald Jenkees and Coldplay! I can listen RJ 10,000 times and not get bored :) I once asked Ronald if he has AS too (thru email) because he looks like that, but he told me thats just a show he pulls off.

Yep - music is my special interest, as well. Rather than being obsessed with particular performers though, I tend to go through periods of being obsessed with certain genres - the most long-standing one being 60s psychedelia, which I still can't get enough of after 25 years of listening. I've been through periods when I've been the same way with krautrock, acoustic folk, post-punk and electronica too.

I also enjoy making music and I get extremely bored and listless when I'm not active in that area.

There is nothing wrong with being obsessed with music. I am an NT mom of an AS little boy. I have always really loved music, and so has my husband. When we were trying to help our son learn language we sang to him all the time. It really helped. My son absolutely loves music too. He is past the kiddy music. He is 4.5 and he listens to everything we do. He likes classical, rock, dance music,. I cracked up one day when he said "I want to listen to Bob Marley"---He was only 3! We are really trying to encourage music for him.

The Cure is the best!! !! I have to agree. I don't listen to them much anymore, but there was a time when I was going through a break up with a boyfriend that I listened to it all the time. I finally had to stop, because I thought it was depressing me even more. But they are incredibly talented---I will always love them. I was pretty into the Doors for awhile too.

I know I've answered this thread before but oh well.
At times I can get very obsessive about the following bands:
Thursday, Refused, Cursive, Motion City Soundtrack, Brand New, Anberlin, Kisschasy, Funeral For a Friend, Anti-Flag, Taking Back Sunday, The Get Up Kids, Sunny Day Real Estate, AFI, Bayside, You Am I, The Vines, JET, and some other Australian bands you've never heard of.

I also really love 60's folk like Phil Ochs.

I am pretty much a music fan. I go to gigs not just for music but to hang with people or I'm the more serious photographer. I constantly listen to music. I've been through 3 or 4 headphones already and my most recent pair have broken too - and they ain't cheap!

The Kinks are my main obsession, followed by a lot of bands from the 1960s, and most of them are British. This is an honest statement coming from the real CockneyRebel. 8)

I love Indie/twee pop; The Vaselines, Tullycraft, Marine Girls, Trixies Big Red Motorbike, Daniel Johnston, Magnetic Fields, Moldy Peaches, Beat Happening, Lovely Eggs, The Shaggs etc. basically any obscure indie pop, alternative underground band. I love many different genres but my biggest crush is twee pop. I'm a nerdy indie trainspotter!
