Yes, and given your age you really don't have to know. It is still a good thing that you are concerned though. Really, it all depends on your strengths anyway. The best thing you can do now is to make the most of your ability and to believe that you can achieve!! !!

I have been in the same job for the last eleven years so yes you can get a job and keep it long term. I have also been in the military the navy and served my time and left with an honorable discharge, so yes you can get in the military if you have Asperger's.
I do have a few cavetats though; first I was in a very technical area in the navy one were minimal social skills did not matte ,we were left alone for the most part to do our jobs.
Even there alot of us got out as soon as we were able.
Wheras in my current job I have to interview hire and manage people and on top of that I have to deal with clients when ever they call. I can and do make it all work but I have to have peace and quite when I get overwhelmed luckly I can do this . If I had to face the clients and hire and could not shut my office door when I neede to then I could not do what I do.

What I am trying to say is be good enough to be able to get the accomadations that you need to do your job .

There was a person on these boards a few months ago who is an EMT. Also, I know someone that I suspect has AS who was an US Army Cryptographer back in the 50's and 60's.

I think that aspies are capable to hold up a job, but it may take a little more time learning how to have correct body language for a good job interview and other skills like that. Eye contact is a little bit of a problem for me; but they did tell me that I placed in the top of their scores for my first (and only) job interview, which was a good sign. I also tried out for drum major for my band (I didn't make it), and I think that that interview also went a little downhill because didn't have lots of eye contact, not to mention I also answered a little too modestly when they asked me why I wanted to be a drum major. I mean, it was the truth, but I think I said it the wrong way when I said that I "didn't have a chance to be a band officer" (our band also has offices) compared to an answer I should've had "I wanted to be a band officer, but I thought that the band members should nominate who should be officers instead of members nominating themselves." (Since no one would nominate me for any job in the band, but I was well capable of performing the duties). Anyways, I think that the job interview is one of the biggest barriers for aspies for getting a job for some of us, but again I don't think it's impossible for us to get jobs. It's not being capable of performing the duties of a job, it's just showing the manager or the boss that you're qualified through interviews and then having good handwriting for handwrittien applications (since handwriting, to some people's minds, depicts someone's IQ subconsciously, according to what I've heard; it's more of a stereotype, actually). I'm actually currently trying to get a job; I haven't gotten a job yet, but I'm praying that I get one. I need chachings (money) for college funds and my band trip coming up next Spring.
