I compulsively tracing out certain shapes with my eyes, for example outlining a square sign and blinking when my eyes reach the corners, or I find the center of an object and blink. I've done it all my life and it just feels weird if I don't, like not scratching an itch. It bothers me sometimes like when I'm looking down at the sidewalk. When I was younger I thought I'd grow out of it (among other things) but no such luck. Can anyone relate to this, and is this an AS issue or maybe OCD or something?

I do it without even realising it sometimes. If it is stimulating to you then it's a stim. I find when I am stressed staring at some minor objects in the background or in front of me stimulating. It could be a tree, a house, a sign, etc.

I find it very soothing to look at things and either trace out the basic shapes they are made of, find their centre, or mentally dismantle them and guess how the components fit together. One of the things I love about my husband is that he a construction engineer and he can tell me all about that stuff! I could listen to him for hours....
It's nerd love!
