Mildly embarrassing perseverations

Perhaps embarrassing is the wrong word, because it's not that I particularly care about what other people think, I'm talking about things that make you feel a bit guilty about indulging in. Personally, I've spent the last week or so watching and rewatching every episode of "Merlin" that I can get my hands on. Normally I'm an admitted TV snob, and I have fairly high standards for writing and acting before I'm going to really get into a show. Much as I'm enjoying Merlin, it doesn't come within fifty yards of meeting those standards. I'm not letting that stop me, but it's kind of funny having half my brain completely obsessed with this show, and the other half split between not believing I could possibly be interested in something so badly written and trying to somehow find artistic merit in it to make it "ok". Has anyone else had this sort of experience?

I think it's called 'guilty pleasures' and quite normal. I suppose your rational brain is seeing the stupid writing, but some other part of you is enjoying it in some way.

Ooooo yeah. Total nerd here - I like comparing verbs from different languages, looking for patterns, numbers and all that kind of stuff. Yet, in all my majestic brilliance, you know what one of my favorite movies is? Repli-Kate. It's about a science student who figures out how to make a clone of his friend Kate. It's one big stupid joke. But there I am drinking it up, like an idiot suckling at the boob-tube.

Oh, and you know what tv show I like?....Seriously, I really actually like it and will stop if I flip by it...Teletubbies. I'm a 35 year old woman. If I were a 5 year old I'd be too old for that show. But somehow, those roly poly little guys with their giggly hellos and that so fake world is just right up my alley.

I have to go to bed now, my head hurts. I think I broke my shame center.

I like Merlin too. No one can understand why. I do find it lame in some parts.

I too have my guilty pleasures.

I used to be a huge fan of Xena, even though it is one of the most cheesy TV series out there and definitely didn't fit into what I would normally watch on TV (medical & forensic procedural dramas). It was a pure escape for my brain and I loved it. Also, the fight scenes were pretty damn cool.

I was this big Austin Powers fan, when I started posting here, back in 2004. Some of the things that I'd post were pretty raunchy, back in those days. I said, Baby, after each thing that I've posted. It was pretty bad.

Some of the music I like is highly embarrassing, and I can't help but like it. When I was five, I heard Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse Of The Heart" and loved it immediately. Others include "We Belong" by Pat Benatar, "Jolene" by Dolly Parton, "I Love You Always Forever" by Donna Lewis, and "Then He Kissed Me" by The Crystals, just to scratch the surface.

Oh, speaking of embarrassing music, I LOVE polka. That is not cool kid music. But come on, even if you don't like polka and think it's silly, it almost always puts a smile on your face. Especially when you witness someone like me dancing and singing to it with complete abandon.

OMG...three of my grandparents immigrated to the US from Poland and I heard polka all the time when I was a kid and I think I was the only one of my generation who actually could stand it...:LOL...right now I love Tejano music (which has a lot of the same instrumentation and beat as polka, but lyrics are in Spanish).

BTW, I also compare verbs in different languages. I am a TOTAL language geek. I'll be at work and in my head it'll occur to me that "eu vin" in Romanian is like "yo vengo" in Spanish or something like that. If I say it out loud I get strange comments...
