I had a cat who was truly a friend, or more like my sweet little baby. Her name is Brina.

On March 21, 1999, she was born underneath my bed. She stuck out from the litter because she had a little deformed tail about a fourth of the normal length, and it was bent to the side. It was so cute when she would wag that little tail. She had plain bluish-gray fur, a black nose, and green eyes.
As she grew up, she was always slightly smaller than the other cats. When she was a kitten, I would pick her up from the litter and let her climb up my shirt with her little claws. She would sit upon my shoulder.

She had the cutest squeaking chirping noise, like she was rolling her 'r's. So I began to call her "Brrrrrina" while rolling the 'r'. She always responded to that name. She would always say, "Rrrriii, rrrriiiii!" when she saw me. She never said that to anyone else, so I guess that was her name for me. Sometimes when she was excited and wanted to show me something, she would say, "Rrriiirriiiriiirrrrriiirrriiirriii!" So cute!

When she was in her most hyperactive phase of kittenhood, she ran everywhere. She would run so fast she could run sideways on upholstered furniture. The sound of all her activity was horrendous, like claws viciously ripping into fabric. One night, she ran over my face and gave me the symmetrical scars on my eyebrows. Mom wanted to get rid of Brina because of that, but I refused to let her go.

She always liked me best. Whenever I was home, she would devote all her attention to me, and ignore everyone else. She would cuddle and comfort me when I was upset, and she loved to be carried everywhere. When I came home from school, she would come running and chirping and would leap up into my arms. She would not let me put her back down on the floor. She always demanded to be in my bedroom every night and would usually sleep next to me.
Whenever I was petting another cat and not her, she would get jealous and squeeze her way between me and the other cat.

Shortly before she turned 6, she disappeared forever. I refuse to believe that she has died or that she ran away. I believe she was kidnapped. She was a pretty unique cat with that tail...

CleverKitten, she sounds like she was so sweet. A part of her will always live on with you now. I agree, someone probably took her in. It happens quite frequently. I took in a kitten over a year ago myself. But she was abandoned by some people who were seen to just slow down and throw her in the gutter and take off. I named her Sterling. She's a Bengal but kinda small for her age too. She's so sweet and affectionate. Anyway, thanks for sharing your memory of your baby, Brina, it's a beautiful story and I will always remember it. :)

I have two cats. They are my pets and my friends. I don't consider that mutually exclusive. The species barrier is a little annoying sometimes, but we work with it.

She was very friendly... to me only. She hated strangers and she disliked my mom and brother. She was just a one-human cat. In fact, she hardly ever went outside, and when she did, she stayed only on the porch.

She disappeared when I visited a friend's house for a couple of days. My mom and brother claimed she was inside the house the whole time I was away. Nobody knows what happened. We practically flipped the whole house over looking for her.

That's why I got a name tag for my cat. My other cat refuses to wear one, but he's not a very friendly cat. Both are microchipped. If people don't just want to steal an animal they will take it to the vet to check for a microchip.

One of my young cats rolls her r's too, it's the cutest noise in the world! She does it anytime she is surprised by something, and the noise goes up at the end like she's asking a question, "rrrrrrrrrr?" And when she meows she replaces the m with a rolled r. It's too cute for words, I'm gonna have to try and record it sometime.

I'm so sorry that your cat disappeared, I can't even imagine how sad that would be. :(

I have three cats myself and I adore all of them. However, I feel a special connection with one of them, something that i haven't managed to establish with the other two (or with most human beings!). i see the other two cats as my pets, i love playing with them and looking after them. yet at the end of the day, i sort of know that they are just my lovely cats - only your best friend when you're feeding them or giving them a tummy tickle.

as with the 3rd cat, i truly feel that there's a bond between us (i know many dogs and their owners have this but not so much with cats?). i feel that she can read my mood or even understand me. i feel the connection through the eyes too! eye contact has never been my strong point so this is very special to me.

i am not a mad cat woman, i don't think that my cat is some kind of super-cat who has super-powers.
i wonder if other aspies can truly connect to their cats? and in what ways?

I know what you mean- I actually just lost my special boy, Willy. He was hit by a car a little over a week ago. He was my baby. We have a lot of cats, and they are all wonderful, but Willy would seek me out to lay on my lap and was always so sweet to me.

I had a cat that did that. She also sounded like she swallowed a bird whole. She's walk around and make cooing sounds.
Liver cancer took her. :(

When stupid phyc people ask about my friends I tell them about Pippin (bearded dragon), Hugo (dog) and Bubba (cat) are my friends. When they go "Those are your pets!" I reply, "Pippin, Hugo and Bubba are my BEST friends!" And they are.

I never really thought of myself as I was growing up, maybe because cats always seemed so... well, stereotypically catlike. But now that I have cats, I really enjoy them. If you treat them gently (never dropping them, petting them softly and avoiding their sensitive spots, etc.), then they can be amazingly affectionate and fun. My cats come when they are called and wait for me at the door when they hear me walking up to the house. I even had one cat who absolutely loved to play fetch--had a favorite ball that she'd bring back for me to throw over and over again, like a little labrador retriever.

I guess you have to treat them like cats for them to act like dogs. If you treat them like cats, they get more catlike in bad ways! I guess the same could be said of me--I'm a lot friendlier if people treat me gently and give me space.

my cat doris is my bestest best best best friend! no one compares, not even close. my other two cats, bella and toby are more like my pets but they are still my 2nd and 3rd best friends!
i love everything about cats, there isn't anything that i'd change about them at all. i love their fluffy tails, leathery nose, meaty paw pads, moving ears, their rough but thin tongue, their plumped whisker pads, their litte meows, their mouth without lips, i love their dense fur, i love their ticklish tummy, big almond shaped eyes, round paws, toned hind legs and even their very sharp and pointy claws!

This is a little early, but if anyone is looking for a cat and lives near Lumberton NC just PM me. I have four pregnant females! We are a cat haven so we end up with strays. One of the mamas is feral, but she lets us take care of her babies (she did with the last litter and they are the sweetest cats) and another of the moms is actually a neighbor's cat who wouldn't let anyone touch her until recently. Now she is a lap cat and stays over here. Anyway, we wanted to get the females all fixed but didn't get everyone in time.

I don't give kittens to just anybody, but we are about to have a crazy population boom! If you want a kitten for a pet and not some barn cat that wont be properly cared for and loved, I will give you a kitten in a couple of months if you can come get it. I can guarantee they will be beautiful! They will probably be tabbies and tabby/white mixtures and some orange or even calicos.

Yes! And I also love the way that the size and shape of a cat's head is the purr-fect fit for my cupped hand to pet it with!!

I've got a dark-furred cat named Stargazer and a Belgian Tervuren by the handle of Travis. Both are adorable, though Travis is the dumber of the two.

My cat, Tanner, is awesome! He's just like a human and we "talk" (I can sort of understand what his meows mean). He follows me around everywhere and is the definition of curious. He always looks out the window, but is scared to actually go outside. Today I took him outside and his expression was like "WTF?". 8O He also jumped on my lap today because he wanted one of my chicken fries, it was hilarious! He's adorable and weird. Yes, I consider him as my friend. He makes me happy.

Funny, you don't look Druidish.

My cat Stranger is my little buddy. When I'm upset he comes and snuggles he follows me all through the house (unless there are loud noises or people he doesn't know then he hides under the bed because he's afraid of most everything) and even comes when I call like a dog.
