Well, not an aspie. But I think God makes all kinds of different people and this is one kind so I just happened to be one of the ones born this way. I don't think God makes people all different sorts because some of them are "better" than others, though. More for the sake of not making all one kind of person (especially a species as dependent on each other as humans are can't afford to be all the same, but that's not the only reason).

I get irritated at the "God made disabled people to teach others a lesson in kindness" crap. God isn't that schmaltzy.

Because god is either omnibenevolent and not omnipotent, or because he's an omnipotent sadist.

Or most likely of all.....because he doesn't exist.

If there was some creative force that could be called God, I am not sure that it would have direct involvement in the creation of individual entities. And even if it did at some point, I am not sure that if still does today. And even if it did or does exist, I am not sure that it had or has consciousness. And even if it did or does have consciousness, I am not sure that its consciousness would allow it to understand the way that we interact and perceive each other.

If such a thing did or does exist, its perceptions of things would be likely to be so different to humans' perceptions that it would likely either not be able to form a complete theory of mind of humans, or may not even care about humans' perceptions. Its understanding of what it's like to be any human would be more likely to be similar to a computer programmer's perception of what it's like to be a computer program.

If such a thing did or does exist, I expect that humans are just one byproduct of the universe, and don't expect that it has much or any interaction with humans or in the creation of individual ones.

Just some of "his" usual brain farts.

Or more likely combination of genetics, gravity and chaos which seem to be the driving forces of this universe.

Because making people all the same sexuality, ability, gender, or color would be really boring, don't you think? Nevermind what has already been said: If we were all the same the species would stagnate. Disability and difference, and autism, as a narrower term, is just another shade of that difference.

Second-guessing "God" can be quite risky, but I suppose there is no great danger here as long as you have some kind of equivilent idea as to what he wanted for everyone else.

Im with Whatsherhame and anbuend on this one. Diversity is absolutely critical for the survival of a species as a whole. Real good question I must say!!

Well, as a weak atheist, I do not particularly believe that there is a God. But I think that if God were to decide to cause me to be born as an Aspie/autist, it was because someone has to be, so it might as well be me. Otherwise it would have been someone else instead.
