The other day I had the phone (since the nephew was sleeping) but was SO INTO my FFXIII game I didn't hear it ring. I get so INTO a show/videogame etc. that I tend to "block out" (phone/door etc.) So today I'm BORD out of my mind! I've done house chores but don't want to get involved into a game (probably will not find a save spot after this tough boss I'm on) or a show (Sure I can pause since I have DVR but I don't want to restart it and I like watching all the way through) (I'm nitpicky like that) So do you get SO Involved in your interest that you block important things out?

When I am talking about things of interest, I find myself blocking out what other people are saying to me.

Yep. I do that sometimes. If I am really into something I will not hear the phone, the front door, people... I will forget to eat, sleep... I like being able to be that caught up in what I do, but it can be problematic when I need to be aware of what is going on around me.

Yeah when I get into something I love I get tunnel vision and hearing. My family doesn't seem to mind it they say that is a sign of I have passion for what I do.

I think you mean 'too'.
And those petty things are not important to me.
Only my interests are important to me.
I think I do not get into my interests enough.

i know i do. once i get into something that i am interested, i totally block out everything else naturally. my way of coping is that where possible, before starting to get stuck into my "hobby", i try doing all other necessary chores quickly first - get them out of the way. of course there are times when i get a phone call or other interuptions, i am normally very short with them. it's really bad and i am trying to be more patient but i am really worried that once i take my mind off my interest, i won't ever be able to get back into the flow of things again.

Yes. I was talking to my brother and his girlfriend on the phone while my telenovela was on. One I remember clearly was recently, when on Mi Pecado Rosario fell down the stairs while struggling with Lucrezia to get Cesar's medalla back. I forgot all about the phone, and I'm like 'Oh, no! Rosario!! !'. She's my favorite character.

Define how much focus is acceptable and then drag Mr SuperNT away from the Supoerbowl to deal with a chatty phone call from his sister.

Yes I meant too LOL! Sorry. Glad I'm not the only one from what I've read this is what separates are interests from normal NT interest we get so involved/obsessed with our interests. I remember I was so wrapped up in Psychology I LOVED do the research papers and creating titles/papers etc. was ALL I thought about thankfully since finding AS I KNOW WHY! :-) This site has helped me so much. :-)

Guilty - I get focused and that's it. I can lock in and forget everything - time, sleep, eating, bathing, people talking, phones ringing.

One thing I do regularly is sit at the computer when not properly dressed - that is, I'm cold (this is true right now) but I can't break away long enough to put on more clothes and get warm. I become aware of it at times and then push it out of my mind as I keep working on the project that has my focus..... eventually when the project winds down I get up and deal with the dressing/warmth issues.

Not the same when I'm too hot though, which makes me feel ill. If I'm too hot I can't think about anything else until I get some relief. :P

But hyper-focus.... yep. Absolutely.

I do it all the time, not only with my interest but really with anything that requires active processing. I constantly hyperfocus.
The only exception is when I focus on sounds (speech, music, really anything), I cannot block out other sounds.

When I am focused on my special interest or anything else that requires a great deal of attention I block everything else out. I won't answer the door, won't answer the phone

I find that I have to have YouTube playing, all day long, as I post on WrongPlanet. I keep sampling bits of music and posting posts. Those are the two things that keep me going. So, yes I do. 8)

Its pretty common for us to get wrapped up in something so much, we tend to become "blind" to everything else. If im in my "game mode," you'd best have a crow bar handy to pry me out of my trance. Its something ive been wondering about off and on lately . . . an idea i have to this is that we tend to let our sub-conscience take control of what we enjoy, kind of like and "autopilot" function. If something other than us cancels the autopilot, we tend to get agitated (I absolutely HATE being interrupted when im doing something).
