A recent television advert alerted me to a current fundraising campaign for Autism and Autism spectrum disorders.

http://drawtism.com.au/aboutDrawtism/al ... /index.php

Drawtism aims to "increase the community's empathy for those affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder. By basing the campaign on Pictionary which has an authentic connection to the experience of autism, the aim is to give people both an insight into the impairments of autism, as well as provide a positive and meaningful way by which to galvanise support."

The organisations involved in raising and recieving funds are:
- Alpha Autism Inc VIC
- Aspect (Autism Spectrum Australia) NSW
- Autism SA
- Autism Association of WA

From what i can tell the funds are going to good use, providing training and employment facilities for people on spectrum, but i've never heard of these organisations before.
I'm posting this to find out people's opinions on: The organisations; Are they as wholesome as they are made out to be? What you think of the campaign; What you like/dislike, concerns etc.
It would be great if anyone has direct involvement in this, i'd love to hear more about this.

Personally, I think the campaign is a fantastic idea, and it has been marketed fantastically. Here's the television advert I saw: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJEQHBN_ARU

There's alot of autism spectrum organziations out there. Probably most people on WP won't be opposed to any organization unless its associated with Autism Speaks.

That was one of my major concerns, but I also wanted to have a bit of a chat about how people felt we are being portrayed in this example as well as overall in the media. Accidentally put this in the wrong thread though...need an admin to move it :(

I get emails about Drawtism. I think Aspect organized some autism awareness month things.
I was going to apply for Drawtism but wasn't sure how many other autistic people would be doing it.

They probably are about a cure but not in the obvious way of autism speaks. They also have a lot of group meet ups and guest speakers that give tips and advice to help those with autism. There hasn't been much for me to get involved with yet.
